Just a couple of basic questions: Do Prob guards effect the drone / flight negativly in anyway?
Would prop guards save the drone from say a small bird flying into it for example.....

Prop guards are good if your going close to structures for survey work.  Other than that they give the appearance of the craft being safe.  Drawbacks - they catch the wind and blow around more and they can cause VRS (vortex ring state) more easily.  When landing go down at an angle and slowly.  Well really you should always land at an angle to avoid VRS.

The P3 and P4 aircraft are no longer subject to VRS.

They are safe to use.   They can help prevent stress cracks.   They probably wont save your Phantom from a bird strike.    In some circumstances they can help save your props.    There is not much noticeable difference flying with or without them UNLESS you are flying long distance, in a lot of wind or at high speed with a P4.

You're advised to use prop guards if you have people around, say shooting a video of an outdoor party, or fly next in the woods, to protect your drone and protect others.

For P3 and P4, the chance of VRS is very slim. Don't worry about that.
