So I bought an iPad Air for my drone. I was going to buy a iPad mini 3 but then I looked at the size of screen difference and bought the air. Was I smart or not buying the air? It will only be used with the phantom 4 so I want to make sure I didn't waste my money. It's only 16 gig as I thought the drone didn't need anything bigger. Thanks for any advice as I haven't opened it yet just incase I need to return it

You should be fine if using this tablet for the drone is its sole purpose.

FWIW, the 16 Gig Air only has about 11.5 Gigs free after you factor in the iOS operating system.

But, as DJI-Jamie points out, as long as you don't load the Air up with Apps, video, music and pictures, 11 Gigs is way more than enough.

I had a 16 Gig iPad Air that only had 3 Gigs free and I used it for months with no problems.  (I did shut off video caching so that the precious 3 Gigs didn't get filled up with video)
