Charged my inspire controller overnight in preparation for a drone shoot. But during the shoot the remote couldn't even turn on

Is my controller faulty? When I plugged it in, the LED lights up for a second then disappears. Is this normal?

I can turn the remote on while it is plugged in, but once I remove the charger and try to turn it on, no lights or response at all. I have tried pushing the charger in as far as possible. It works fine charging the battery.
