having asked dji about this recently, dji's response was battery lifespan 6 months/300 cycles whichever comes first. every 20 cycles  discharge down to 8% then full recharge to 100% to help with battery efficancy/prolonging lifespan.

Do you Deep cycle them? If not, try it, and see if their life improves.

Drain down to 8% and recharge.

I agree 6 months, NO WAY. 300 cycles ok I can live with that. But I doubt time is much of a factor, unless you're talking about years, not months.

Yeah, I've had all of my 6 batteries for well over a year and they have most of their life left still. Having this number of batteries means that none are over 50-60 charges, so if it's 300 charges, I have a lot left.

If these were designed to die after 6 months, I would have been very unhappy.

I have to say, I'd love to have a comment on the lifespan of 6 months stated in here, as it seems people is getting mixed information from DJI or DJI seller partners.

As much as I enjoy the visual aids, they still don't tell me how much lifespan I can expect for the original battery.

Should I wait until my bird fell off the sky because the battery - despite its logs showing no issue whatsoever - went suddenly from 98% to 0%, to have DJI telling me that the battery was out of its lifespan and therefore the repairment/replacement will be on my expense?

Can't we really have a straight answer on this?

Hello Cloudy, the warranty period of battery is 6 months and please make sure charge cycle less than 200 Times.
Please check the details on our website---"Warranty Period of Main Parts"

I have not kept up with battery technology and chemistry as much as I would like to have time for, but I do recall that Li-Ion batteries had a shelf life of about 3 years before they started to degrade regardless of charge level or charge cycles (or rather in addition to them). LiPo is supposed to be better but works best when not kept at full charge or very low charge for long. Most Li-Ion and LiPo batteries are rated for about 300-800 charge cycles depending on a variety of factors. I used to read www.batteryuniversity.com for background - I haven't done so in a while and assuming it's been kept maintained I would recommend it.

Hello DJI Natalia,

first of all, thanks for the reply.

If I'm getting this right, the battery warranty period is equal to 6 months, or 200 cycles, whichever comes first.

Now, can I infer from this statement that DJI doesn't count itself responsible for crashes due to battery defect when, for example:

- the battery has more than 6 months and less than 200 cycles, or
- the battery has less than 6 month, and more than 200 cycles, or
- the battery has both more than 6 months and more than 200 cycles?

Is this right?

I was about to say!! 6 months lifetime for a £120 battery, HELL NO!!!!!!!!

With proper care there is no reason these batteries can't last for many years and have loads of cycles (unless they are assembled with very low quality cells).

Hello DJI Natalia,

first of all, thanks for the reply.

It would seem that's correct. Here's a cut and paste from that link she posted.

yes but that's just the warranty period. still we don't know the extent of it.

Is it considered battery defect when a battery out of warranty and perfect log history suddenly die, causing a crash?

The aircraft has a 1yr warranty and the battery 6 months.
If your battery is in good working condition and there was a malfunction of the aircraft caused by a battery defect then it would be evaluated and may be a warranty repair. The repair department decides in those situations.

I would think that if there was a malfunction and the aircraft crashed due to a proven battery malfunction after the battery warranty expired I would think that the aircraft would be repaired under warranty but not the battery.
It may be a case by case scenario.

Yes, of course. I was being funny (at least I tried to), saying that's a maybe. Exactly because it depends on the actual case and there's no simple rule to "guess" the outcome
