Is there a way to chage how files are named? I would prefer a date code over 001, 002, 003.

I don't think so, but I agree.

I use a PC plug-in app called "Better File Rename"  It takes a selected list of files and changes the file name in any way you can think of.

Also would be nice if the naming convention would continue from one SD to another.... Currently the names start from 001 when a new SD card is used.

So by inserting the date into the name would be a great start, to fixing that issue!

The Phantom uses the DCIM standard which does not allow this. The first four characters can be changed by the device make but the four digit serial number is fixed. It's old and historical and based on a FAT16 8.3 filename system, but well understood.

Go to your camera settings (click Menu above the onscreen camera button)
Look for File Index Mode and select the Continuous option rather than Reset and your Phantom will do exactly what you are asking for.
