While this might be a preferential type question, I'm curious to hear how far off the ground you guess prefer for recording?  I know one size doesn't fit all so listing the recording purpose with the altitude preference would be helpful.

It depends on what you are trying to capture! If you are trying to focus on a specific subject...fly close. If you are trying to capture a neighborhood... fly high! It all depends on what you want to portray in your video or photo.
