Apologies if this is buried in the manual but will the controller either charge or at least hold the phones charge when plugged in? My iPhone is notorious for eating battery quickly so was interested to see whether I need to take a phone power bank with me.

Remote controller on Mavic won't charge your phone, if you bought combo you can get a full charge from a Mavic battery even if it's depleted to 20%.

No problem,
You can also use a portable battery bank and plug it into the side slot and plug your phone/tablet into the bottom.
You'd have to have some mount to hold it all.

Are you absolutely 100% certain?
As far as I've heard, the MAVIC controller does NOT charge your phone, while the PHANTOM/INSPIRE controller DOES charge your phone.
This info is from one of the Youtubers who had the Mavic demo sent to him earlier.

Yes, I plugged my Samsung into the RC and when everything powered on the phone charging percentage does go up slowly. Also confirmed that iPhone charges too.
I bought one of these to see what rate it charges.

Of course in order to charge the phone you actually have to have a remote control, or a mavic and increasingly evidence is pointing towards that being a very very rare thing.

Sweet.
Was a bit worried about that feature lacking really.

Now I'm just worrying if the thing is going to show up in the first place.

Hi,
newbie question..

What happens when there's incoming call on the phone in mid-flight...?
Will the DJI GO app allow the phone to "ring".. or force into airplane mode?

Thanks

It will allow the phone to ring, you can even answer it if you want but I wouldn't because of the distraction.
If you did stay on the call the phone info will stay overlaid on the GO app. You would need to go to the phone's home then back to the app and the phone info will be gone but you'd still be on your phone call.
But again, I'd suggest if you get a lot of calls then put it into airplane mode to avoid the distraction.

Does the app not need the phone for map data?  I had a P3 standard and could not use it with a standard tablet, only on my phone with data.

You do need a device for map data as the RC has no screen to display a map.
