This is an Austrian Team and they develop a Parachutesystem for Rescue and to protect Spectators and so on...

Their web site is remarkably light on information. One gets the impression they are floating the idea but does it have any substance? The other link shows them with some sort of parachute system, but employed on a huge aircraft, much larger than any consumer aircraft.

Is there a need for this? How many people world-wide have been injured by falling drones?

well i think the Idea was born because last year there was a worldcup ski race in austria and a drone crashed only centimeters behind a skier racer.
i´m not really shure but...
