I am wondering why nobody is complaining about the inferior picture quality in 1080p in comparison to the Phantom 4.

The reason is because the Mavic uses the "pixel binning" method instead of the "super sampling" method of the Phantom 4.

For those who don´t know the advantages and disadvantages:
Pixel binning: chooses in downscaling a random pixel color of the surrounding four pixels but is much faster in sense of compute speed and reflects in a much better latency.

Super sampling: regards the surrounding pixels and chooses the best pixels to meet the best possible quality which needs more compute power but results in a higher latency.

Probably the reason could be because DJI will be publishing the goggle´s and would need a low latency video picture, which is fine to do so, but,

I would really wish that DJI would update their FW to use the super sampling method when flying without goggles to get the best possible video image on SD-card and pixel binning when low latency is required for goggles.

Usually I film in 4k and downsample on my own with final cut i.e.. But sometimes I really want high frame video (more than 25/30 pictures per second) to get a smoother video or to do slo-mo on post processing.

What do you think?

Couldn't agree more. 25/30 FPS is ok for slow moving, distant objects or slow panning shots but no good for any sort of fast action.

Absolutly, yes.  I'd also love to see the option to switch antialiasing methods for 1080p60 between latency and quality!

Hell yes. Give us accurate super sampling via the firmware. The Pixel binning shouldn't be used. DJI read this post.

The Mavic was designed more for consumer level and fun (FPV) with decent video, that's why it's also cheaper than the Phantom. It's the camera hardware itself that has the limitations so we won't be seeing a firmware release to fix the higher than 30p framerates as they were intended for FPV with low latency. If you want a good camera system you choose the P4 or P4 Pro, fun and portability with decent imagery get the Mavic.

Or wait for the Mavic 2 and hope the camera system is better.

Oh, and this has been discussed a lot and people are not happy about it, this is definitely not the first post on the topic.

I think the P4 is the next step, Mavic is perfect for travel and sports - so 1080 60 or even 96p is ESSENTIAL!

Please DJI: CHeck if you can do anything about that! 4k is nice, but for non-professionals 1080 is the standard!

Your assumption is wrong. It is not the HW, it is the software downsampling algorithm which can be changed via a firmware update. DJI stated that the sensor is the same as from the P4 etc.

If someone would want to fly FPV, the low latency could be switched on as an option with pixel binning.

So lets hope!! And keep preassure up....1080p (60 / 96p) VIDEO mode!!!!!

I also hope they will fix it, I don't feel like filming everything in 4K.

Dont take everything for granted from other peoples posts. I will be fine with an official statement from DJI. There is nothing else to say about this. Lets wait what happens.

Enjoy waiting for an Official Announcement because they are so good at making those. I was going off DJI-Ken saying it's not gonna happen.
