Hello!

I'm planing to buy my first dron ever and it will be Mavic. Just want to make it cleare for my self. Whats the difference between Mavic shutter and two new dronce that came out Inspire 2/P4pro with key feature mechanical shutter (link on it). Will it effect video quallity alot or mechanical shutter is more for proffesional use?

Thanks!

Yes: it can affect in specific scenarios like rapid pans or when shooting objects like those in the video below:

I read somewhere that the mechanical shutter on I2/p4p is not used while shooting video.  It is only utilized while taking stills.  I could be mistaken though

I doubt they built a second shutter just for video.  It's possible it can't be adjusted, but it has to be used for video.

The mechanical shutter does work during video so it can stop the rolling shutter issues, everything I've read said that. The mechanical shutter is only one reason of the multitude for the P4 Pro having a better camera. 1 inch sensor gives better low light performance, it can shoot in higher framerates without getting the jello effect, it can process at 100mbps so there's less compression, 20MP stills, 4k60p...

Mavic for portability, P4 Pro for better quality imaging.

A mechanical shutter and global shutter are two different things. A mechanical shutter doesn't mean you won't get rolling shutter issues. Gobal shutter is more to do with the sensor read out than the actual mechanism of the shutter itself.

From the DJI marketing material i only see the mechanical shutter mentioned in relation to the still photography.

I highly doubt they would be able to include a mechanical shutter for video use due to the rate at which such a mechanism would fail. DSLR Mirrors are usually only rated for several hundred thousand actuations before needing replacement. you'd burn through that pretty fast at 60fps

On his part 2 video, someone in the comments asked about the mechanical shutter and he replied that it is in fact just for stills.

For photogrammetry guys like me, still photos is most of what matters.  The mechanical shutter plus the 20mp photos plus the extended flight time makes this phantom 4 pro UAV a much better platform for my work.  I currently use an Inspire 1, but as soon as this unit starts shipping I will be using this kit instead...  At least until a wallet friendly RTK enabled UAV comes available. I had hoped there would be some mention of future compatibility for the Inspire 2 to have an RTK addon.

Lol, guess I'll be getting the P4P before I get my hands on my Mavic... Who was the retailer?

P4P mechanical shutter goes up to 1/2000. Electronic shutter goes to 1/8000.

Don't forget the increase in dynamic range. That's super noticeable in shadows, highlights, AND COLORS.
