P3P live video so bad it's virtually unusable

I didn't use to have this issue until about a month ago.  When the P3P first turns on and connects the live video is flawless.  It then gets worse and worse over the next few minutes to the point of being virtually unusable.

I've tried messing with the channel and bandwidth settings.  The issue gets worse as I slide the bandwidth from 4mbps to 10mbps, even with the P3P is sitting next to the RC on my dining room table.  Changing channels manually makes no difference.

I've replaced the cable between the gimbal and the main board (which was damaged!) but the issue is still there.  I've tried different devices (LG phone, Shield tablet), and it doesn't make a difference.  Any ideas?

The video and pics on the card are perfect so it appears the camera and gimbal assembly are working well.  All firmwares are latest.

Video was taken at a distance of less than 500 meters with line of sight.  Have flown there previously with no issues.  As you can see it's over unpopulated area so there should be no interference.

Just to clarify, did you notice this after a firmware update or a hard landing? How was the ribbon cable initially damaged? Which Go app version are you running?

I didn't notice immediately after a firmware update, but I haven't had a hard landing/crash in forever.  If anything a recent firmware update would be more likely.

The ribbon cable was crushed between the body of the P3P and the gimbal mount bracket, I'm assuming during manufacturing with 1 wire completely flattened.  The cable was also damaged in the body of the P3P with 1 wire slightly exposed (same as crushed wire).

I'm using the latest version of DJI Go, but it happens in Litchi as well.

Someone in another forum suggested downgrading firmware on the RC.  Thoughts?

It's known issue, had the same problem just after upgrading to 1.9.60 from 1.8.80. 1.9.60 screwed something between remote controller and DJI GO app. Even when there was garbled video on the tablet screen, video fed from HDMI expansion board was intact all the time. Downgrading remote controller resolved this issue.

So If your situation is identical, you only have to downgrade remote controller back to 1.8.80 and it will resolve all the problems. There is no need to downgrade the bird, everything will work OK. Hope I helped

PS. Which firmware version have you upgraded to? 1.9.60 or the newest, 1.10.90?

Thanks for all the detailed info!

I'm not certain what firmware I have on the RC, I thought the latest which I guess is 1.10.90.  I'll have to double check and make a note.

What is the procedure for downgrading firmware?

I would give a RC downgrade a try to better troubleshoot. Did you happen to update the Go app recently as well?

I always keep the App updated as well.  I'm going to give the downgrade on the RC, not the bird, a shot tonight and report back.

So I have to do a full flight at range to confirm, but initially downgrading RC firmware to 1.6.0 did the trick for me in a 10 minute indoor test.  I was on RC 1.8.0 with the issues.  After going back down to 1.6.0 the quality is good and stable.  I left the firmware on the quad itself alone, which is 1.9.60.  My app version is 3.1.0.

It looks like it was a firmware issue with RC after all.  What are you guys doing, just flying on 1.6.0 until something better supersedes 1.8.0 and addresses the bug?

I run my Advanced on v1.9.60 the RC on v1.6 and DJI Go app v3.0 as well as Litch on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Tablet. EVERYTHING works fine and I am not going to update anything until DJI make available the CrystalSky Tablets. After that I will because if anything goes wrong they will have no-one to blame but themselves....THEIR firmware..THEIR DJI Go App...THEIR CrystalSky Tablet. I did update my RC to 1.8 and the live video feed was busted up...rolled back to 1.6 and all was good again thats where Im staying!!!  Cheers mate !!

Hello.
I have a phantom 3 standard running latest firmware on craft, RC and android app.  How do I downgrade just the RC firmware?  Is it recommended to downgrade just RC but leave phantom at current version? or should I downgrade the phantom at the same time?  Where do I find old firmware for either RC, phantom or both?

Sorry for the slew of questions.

Thanks.
Steve

With your aircraft firmware at that version, you're fine to leave the RC at 1.6 until this gets addressed since it's working for you.

I believe just the RC downgrade is recommended, which is what I did.  I did not touch the firmware on the Phantom.

Here's the instructions for controller firmware downgrade:

http://forum.dji.com/thread-48287-1-1.html

For the bird I'm not sure but I would guess same an upgrade:  download (older) firmware, put on MicroSD card, insert in the Phantom and power on?
