Hi there everybody...

Well, on December 2014 someone showed me a couple of youtube videos with FPV footage, Phantom 2, Gopro, etc, etc... I got hooked immediately!!!
In two weeks I had in my possesion a fully equiped Phantom2 with h3-3d gimbal and gopro 4 black edition. Fully FPV equipment... the whole nine yards!!!
My one and only (I hope) accident was a fall from 10mtrs after 4-5 flights and a firmware upgrade.

As a result, a broken compass and a destroyed gimbal. Fortunately the camera survived with only some minor scracthes.

I repaired the Ph2 and everything has been going smoothly ever since...

Just a hint, better not use those carbon props, they don't actually offer much and if not balanced well you can damage your Phantom in seconds. Stay away...

How do you get FPV from a GoPro?

I am about to purchase my first Phantom 2 and would like to use a Hero 4 Black (for 1080p/120) but I have been told there is no FPV (using iPhone/iPad as a monitor) while flying. I thought I had seen FPV while flying using a GoPro in videos I have seen but I'm guessing they were achieved with even more expense?

All you need is a transmitter/receiver setup and one monitor. Cannot do it with ipad/iphone due to wifi limitations of GoPro. You can use ipad as a monitor but only for 200mtrs, after that you are going to lose the signal.
But with a proper transmitter/receiver setup you can have a perfect signal for more than 1km.

That is good to know, I think given the cost implications it will be best to just stick with a Phantom 2 V+ while I get to grips with flying/filming then look at saving towards an Inspire/GoPro set-up in the future.

Inspire has a dedicated camera that is on same quality level with GoPro 4 black edition. Also, it's way much more expensive than a Ph2/GoPro 4 setup.
Additionally, GoPro 4 has plenty more uses than an FPV dedicated camera.
My opinion is for you to start with this setup and  you will be covered in all aspects. Trust me.

Can you control you GoPro ?  Can you take photos and videos from distance or must you turn the camera on before  ?
