Hi guys,

Anyone here try out the wifi ability of the mavic yet?
From DJI's website

Operating Frequency

2.4G/5G
Max Transmission Distance80m(Distance),50m(Height)  (Unobstructed, free of interference)
Max Speed14 km/h (9 mph)
Max Ascent Speed6.6 ft/s(2 m/s)
Max Descent Speed3.3 ft/s(1 m/s)

So from that I would think I would be able to go at least 50-60 m in open air, but during my test I was only able to get about 3-4 meters before the video feedback started to get really choppy and 5-6 meter I would just flat out lose connection to it...
I'm running DJI Go on an Android OnePlus3 6.0

I really don't need it to go 80km but would be nice to have a fair distance would be great.

Luckly it was just a test and i made sure I set the Mavic to RTH if the connection is lost and and made sure i set a home that is in the open and clear

Have you tried to fly in another open area?  Probably you ran into interference in that area.
Besides, if convenient, please try with a mobile device which is in our recommended list.

I have a bunch of android phones around me, but the once in the recommended list are not any of them
I haven't tried another open area yet as most of these open area is covered in about 2-3 feet of snow

For wifi control, a good tablet would work better, as they are often wifi only, and have larger antennae.

Well the reason why i would only want to use a phone is cause of the bulkyness for certain situation for example when I go biking

I really wouldn't recommend using the WiFi mode if you're thinking to have it follow you biking. Or do you just mean to have it with you if you bike somewhere? And if that's the case is the rc taking up that much more space in your bag?

well thats just an example which I would think the mavic on wi-fi mode should be able to do. Either way the Wi-Fi function is just a little disappointing =[

Besides, what about the transmission distance when using remote controller?

Its not about the space of the controller..
I want to use the active tracking alibility with my phone via wifi as the active tracking is normally 10-30m range. The benefit of using the phone is that is has no physical controller sticks that can interfere when thrown into the backpack.

I was able to max out the Values easily using an NVIDIA Shiled portable. As i also mapped the Gamepad i had very fine control over the Mavic.
The portable Shield has very strong MiMo Antennae and a good WiFi chipset, i can fly a toy WiFi drone (Bebop) up to 800m@100m Altitude with it.
If only DJI would allow to change the maximum limits and the maximum speed to be User defined.

@DJI Mindy, any chance on that ? Default values could be as now and there could be a big fat warning about lifting those limits ?!
If a connection loss happens its the same thing as with the remote: selectable RTH/Hover/Land...

Nils

P.S. S7 Edge was also able to max out the limits without loss of LiveView Frames...

Thanks. I'll help to report this.
And when it's available, please try to fly in another open area to test it.

Besides, please use the DJI assistant to export the 1860 data.
It's in the data export option.
Please upload it to dropbox and send me the link.
Thank you.

Please connect your aircraft to DJI assistant. Then find the 1860 data.
You can use the same method as for the Phantom 4.
Here is a video tutorial for reference:
