I live out in the desert in southern Arizona, and, as you can imagine, the sun is relentless. When I try to use the Mini during the day, the main thing I see on the screen is my reflection. It's as though the screen is a mirror. Needless to say, that makes it very hard to track the ground. What are you guys using to cut down on the glare without making the screen so dark that you find it hard to see?

most use a shade like these:

http://www.amazon.com/Coollcd-Su ... =ipad+mini+sunshade

http://www.amazon.com/Summitlink ... =ipad+mini+sunshade

you can cut down a bit using a matte finish (non-glare) screen protector.  my daughters ipad has this on it and i can see it much better than my ipad which has the glossy protector that is more like the natural screen.  the downside is that the crispness of the image i think is worse with non-glare ones.  but the ipad is heavy enough on my controller now so i do without a shade.  others may post up better options than those i put above, they are just examples to help you google your own.

I tried one of the shades in your second link. Didn't help. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but it seems pretty straight forward.

With the shades on, don't fly with the sun to your back- any time you move the sun will be directly on your screen.   I TRY to fly with the sun at a 45 to 90 degree angle on my left or right- that's when I get the best view of my screen. If you fly with it in front of you you're staring in the sun while flying- sure the screen is shaded, but adjusting your eyes from looking in the sun and then at the screen is a killer. Also make sure your screen brightness is all the way up.    -Just a few thought you may or may not have thought of.  Finding a balance can be frustrating!

These have a matte finish and cut down the glare when used in combination with the hood.  They have many different sizes for many different devices.

Gerry, so.. got the clamp and shade.. works great but glare is HORRIBLE.  Neat thing about this clamp is that you can turn it sideways and it will hold and Iphone 6+ perfectly.  Simple Velcro mod and I can mount my small hood to the clamp.   Here's my question though.... when using the ipad, the TX is soooo unbalanced due to the weight.  Have you tried something to change the COG with the ipad mounted?

That is why I got 2 clamps so the weight would not tip it over.

This is mine.  I also had a second ball mount added to the bar.
The glare I took care of with a matte finish shield.

Here is a setup that I use that works really well.  I use the Ipad mini with a Matte Screen Protector.  I took the hood part of the mount shown, and put in on the SeaCraft Transmitter Table,  Works really well.  The Table adjust to allow you to accommodate the sun angle.

Gerry, I saw that for the side to side weight, my issue is the front to back weight (my wrists get tired).  Gary's set up would help to balance that  depending on where the lanyard is attached.      I have a new tempered glass,  anti glare coming for my iphone 6+ and if that works well, I'll get one for the ipad.   Updates as soon as it arrives and I can fly.
Cheers!!

The Table has a couple of locations to mount the back strap, and the back strap has a sternum bar to spread the weight across your back.  Really comfortable.  I usually hook to the front post, but if I tilt the screen up I slide it back to the back one.

My Bodyguardz  anti glare , tempered glass arrived a day early (yesterday) .   LOVED IT!!!   No longer could I see my own reflection on my FPV.   Picture distortion (common with anti glare covers) is MINIMAL, and it did not reduce the screen brightness at all!  This was well worth the $.  Plus they have reduced replacement cost it anything happens to it AND a 20% discount on future purchases.  I'll be ordering for my ipad SOON!!!    Here is the link if you're curious!  BIG difference in my FPV comfort.     http://www.bodyguardz.com/screen ... r-film-guard-shield

I have a "Amazon" one for the 7" iPAD Mini...   First - one arm is not enough to keep it stable with the hood etc.
Spent the ~$35 for it and after mounting there is slop in the single ball mount from the OEM smartphone bracket.  Second while stated for 7" the screen cover 7" and 8" tablets and looks/ feel flimsy when all together for the 7" pad....   Really don't want to spend another $35 for a  second mount and a spare crap visor...

I'll probably go back to the hook for iPad and a glare screen, or junk it all and make my own for a iPad air...

Hey bahamasboy, how did the Bodyguardz work on the iPad Mni.  I'm looking around, but have seen some luke warm reviews from other brands like the ZAGG anti-glare InvisibleShield.
