I don't live in a heavily populated area but I could never get even 1/2 mile distance from my transmitter. I did the DJI app config mod and gained the extra channels. Still left in auto mode and in 2.4GHz but now have up to 32 channels instead of the normal 8. When from a previous best of 740 meters to almost 1200 meters!!!!! I order the Skyreat Antenna Range Booster for a whopping $16.99 and should be able to at least double my distance!!!!! Will be delivered tomorrow. I'll report how they work for me.

Either defective remote, or interference. I would assume since the remote had the additional channels to choose from, that gave me the additional distance so i'm going to go with interference. Even though I don't live in a heavily populated area.

I would assume there is something defective. I've personally flown 4 DJI quads along with associates of mine flying 3 others, plus a few people around our city in congested/populated areas and, even with much potential interference, we all got great ranges, even if short of the advertised maximums. Even the guys flying the models with the shortest range (P3S) got over 1/2 a mile in worst-case conditions. I hope it gets sorted for you.

Funny enough I was watching a YouTube video last night regarding this and it's deffo next on my list of things to do.

No sir. I'm in the US.

Looks like a typical town where there is plenty of noise on 2.4 ghz and 5.8 ghz. Wifi uses both frequencies , micro wave ovens and mobile phones use 2.4. Anywhere you see houses like this you should expect heavy interference on both frequencies. 5.8 at my location near london england is bled over completely , my p4p never runs at 5.8 unless i go way out in the countryside.

Cobra would you care to share your CFG file with others here that would like to do the channel mod to their P4P ? Why not offer it up in the dropbox?

I am in a semi restricted area due to Police, hospital, air traffic less than 5 miles away, and the airport less then 10 miles away. My restriction is I can only fly less then 400 feet high. Anything above that and i'm in a flight path so I guess that is where most of my interference is coming from.

The police, hospital and other emergency services dont transmit on 2.4 or 5.8 , but air traffic radar will create harmonics that may well bleed over those frequencies as it transmits on 1090 mhz. I expect your intereference is mostly from wifi routers. Im sure if you look at available networks when you are in your home on  your computer, it will show probably 10-15 different networks which are obviously from close by. Some people upgrade the wifi to a stronger output, and these are probably the units that are interfering with your drone.

Absolutely. It works!!!!

Great distance with my P4P but I do have line of site in country setting in North Alabama, No mods, no antenna booster of any kind have done this flight 2 different times, I keep my controller on auto and it chooses the 5.8 and at some point over half way there it looses connection on the video so I switch it manually to the 2.4 and it regains connection, never drop in the controller signal just the video part of it.

I may have missed you already answering this question, but have you taken the quad out to a less congested area? I just cannot imagine that interference is the issue. Would like to see results of a couple flights in other areas.

So Far I have not. I do want to try this. I just received my Skyreat boosters so I'm going to try this in my current area just to report how this works in my current situation. That way, anyone else in the same situation will know if they spend $16.99 they can get better results without having to go to a less populated area. For me, I will have to travel at least an hour west to get to a less dense/populated area.

VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SKYREAT ANTENNA BOOSTER FOR $16.99!!!. Quick run down. I never had the chance to test my brand new store bought P4P for distance. I had the camera gimbal issue and immediately sent it in for repair. I was sent back a "brand new P4P" as I called and verified this on 2 different occasions. Best I was able to net with this P4P was 750 meters distance at 70 meters high in my area. Then I did the Config file in my DJI app to open my app up to 32 channels. This improved my distance to almost 1200 meters with no other changes. Then I got these antenna boosters. I was looking at replacing my antenna with better ones to give me better range. Saw a youtube video of a guy testing these things and how it pushed the wasted signal forward (simply physics) and increase the output on a meter!!!! I went a full mile and still didn't have any signs of signal loss!!! Very impressed with these things!!!!!

Cobra I have the skyreats on my p4p and I regularly fly it over 2.5 kilometres away from me and still have 5 signal bars for rc and video.

THAT IS AWESOME!!!!! Your flying over 3 miles!!!! I am very happy with mine. Easy to remove and put on when ever you need it and it works!

Still had over 40% battery left after that flight. People tend to want to fly balls out as fast as the craft can go, I dont climb fast to altitude , and only fly wihile recording at between 4-5 metres per second, battery lasts much long, no props in the video and you get smoooooth turns and pans. As someone once said " slow is smooth, smooth is fast".

I have P4P+ and I have all available channels on both 2.4 and 5.8 while using  config. file. I have also confirmed it worx like a charm.

You need to go into settings - android - and activate developer options. Then go from there...

Connect controller to PC and transfer config file to proper file folder....
The rest is searchable.

PS those parabolic range extenders do work . I would hate to have to fight with those in the wind while craft is  LOS  , however....

Mine works perfect on the P4P in automatic mode. It does utilize the upper channels.

I will kick the door in. You will need to fill in the blanks.

Config file is hidden, so to confirm you will need to open Go4 & confirm chan available in settings...

I'm not sure how to decipher your question? The config file is hidden. If you have the download in a zip file and are using windows, unzip the file. Then go to file view and change folder and search options, then click on the view tab. Under advance, click on show hidden files and folders and uncheck hide extensions for known files types. Then you can view the Config file.

When using this cfg file, it still does not use any channels outside of the original ones.  You can custom choose the channel, but auto does not switch to them.

I manually changed to the channel. And it works without question this way.

If you use auto, Go will range through only the original channels .

Are the range extenders you all are having good results from the same as the Parabolic signal range boosters that slides on antenna?

Hi Svt04cobra, thanks for sharing the file - just updated my dji go 4 app and was able to fly my P4P for more than 4km away from where I was piloting. This is indeed a big improvement...
