Hi there!
I'm only have about one hour flight time - still new to all this. Wanted to do my first editing with Mavic footage. So I downloaded the video files via Lightning SDCard Adapter directly to my iPad (Air, ios 10.3, 44 GB free space). None of the files - and I tried different resolutions, formats, mov and mp4, pal and ntsc... noe of the files will play on the iPad: "unsupported file format". I see just the first frame, when I click on the > button, I get the loading circle thing, but it never stops and starts playing.... the same files are just fine on my Macbook and on PC. I'm a bit clueless.... I would assume it' the ios beta 10.3, but then others would have the same problem... also all my Gopro videos just run fine.
Any hint would be much appreciated, since I would like to do my editing on iMovie...
Thanks from Berlin
Norbert

I did some more tests and it's clear now.

Obviously it "just" depends on the processor. My iPad Air can handle Mavic videos up to 1080p and 96fps. While my iPhone 7Plus is still ok with 2,7k and 25fps. Anything above will NOT play... I think I also read posts where somebody confirmed, that he can play 4k on his iPad Pro... cannot test that
So I can forget to do my edits on the iPad...

If recording in 4K, you need to convert it to resolution to play on your device.  https://www.winxdvd.com/resource ... -on-iphone-ipad.htm
Or get one of these. http://4k.com/phone/a-review-of- ... h-4k-display-89392/

Same here. Not playing on my iPad Air. But it plays on my Macbook fine. My P3P videos play fine on each one of my devices though  (iPhone 6S / iPad Mini4 and iPad Air). Weird.

The DJI Drone capture 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24 or 25 fps and UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) videos in MP4 / MOV ( MPEG–4 AVC / H.264) format at up to 30 fps. However, if you want directly watch DJI 4K videos on your iPad, what a pity, you need to downscale 4K videos to iPad supported 1080P or 720P with a 4k video converter. From my own experience, iPad can't support 4K video formats playback, even the new iPad 2017 only can support 2k video. I often use a third tool to compress 4k video for iPad, then 1080p video is better for editing on iPad or other NLE software. I  found the condition in this article is similar to yours, maybe you can find the answer.

Here is what i have. If i add the unedited file through iTunes, I can then just drag it to the connected iPad and all is well, plays like a charm. Air 2 iPad.
However if I edit using daVince Resolve 12.5 in any way, shorten a clip, add music, etc. it will play just fine on my Mac book but not on the iPad, according to iTunes>
iMovie won't allow me to use it to edit a "Quicktime" video. Do I have my camera set up incorrectly?

You need a faster iPad, this is what I'm saving for, the videos would look fantastic on the 12.9 retina display http://amzn.to/2tFbbCs

It you go to edit on the main screen of the app you can edit your movie files inside the DJI Go 4 app, when you edit and save won't it save as 1080P as that's your devices capacity ?
I have iPad Air 2 and editing or watching back any 2.7k 30fps is fine....I edit then just upload to youtube and they go up as 720P all from the iPad and app etc
Hit "Editor" on the first App screen that appears and have a look in there ;)

Import them into iMovie. From there you can convert them to be viewed from iPhones, iPad etc.

This is what ive done since day 1 and never had a issue..... until now, i can import from the drone but its showing to download from the iCloud now in IMovie . I dont use ICloud ...... also, all the videos that i have imported over the past year did the same thing.....I just noticed this when i was going to make a new video this weekend.  I have the IPad Pro and its always did just fine, i can transfer the videos..... just can't play them or insert them in IMovie

I added a link with a screen shot of the issue
Any help would be great!!!

Just like you, I use lightning SD card adapter to transfer 4K videos to my iOS device. (iPad Pro 10.5) The 4K video is not supported, so what I do is, I transfer the 4K video to iMovie, from there I can edit the video then import the video to my photo gallery to 4K format.

ipads all automatically downsample and downscale.  the issue here is function of the application not allowing it.  iPhone 5S (2013) with A7 cpu and 1GB of ram can play a 100mbps 4K file in H.264 and HEVC format at 60fps, from its library without editing it or anything it will just downsample it on its own...    think about that before assume hardware isn't capable.

Working good on my iPad Pro 9.7 (you can buy 10.5" with even bigger power) - even video cut and colorgrade in 4k works ok so far.

Even though the will not play on your iPad, they will work on your iPad if you watch them in iMovie app. Don't ask me why, they just do....

Maybe you just need to deal with a simple video conversion.  Based on my experience, iOS can play 1080P or 720P Mavic footage but not 4K video since it doesn't support it as a mobile device. To fix Mavic videos wont play on iPhone/iPad, you can compress the video or decrease it to a lower resolution.

Currently, only iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4 have the capability to handle video with 4K resolution. For those people who are using previous version of iPad like iPad Mini 3/2, iPad 4/3/2 or iPad Air to view 4K video, your iPad will automatically downscale 4K to 1080p, however, due to additional processing the video player software on your iPad has to do to display the 4K video, the results may be worse than if you play native 1080p video.

Although you’re able to play DJI Mavic Pro 4k video iPad models listed above, however, you aren’t able to play them at full potential on iPad because none of the iPad models listed above owns a 4K resolution screen display, to get the optimal playback performance and experience, it would be much ideal for you to compress 4K to 1080p for iPad playback.

'Sync for DJI' free app works with all file format (4K, RAW, h.265). Also, the app works even in the background. I download files on my iPad from drone through this app and edit in Adobe Rush

It's really not dependent on the processor.    I can't import any  mov fiiles into  imovie on my ipad pro, vut thoese same files will play with the default player.   It's apple being apple
