Good day, all. I just purchased the P4P for stills and 4k video. I've been looking into ND filters and I'm still a bit confused on what to get. What filters should I get for taking stills and what should I get for shooting 4k. Thank you all for all your help.

i believe the p4pro variable aperture is a good get around to filters. i own a p4 and f/2.8 combined with shutter speed up to 1/4000 is amazing. add variable aperture to that! other than to take close shots in extra strongly illuminated subject (not really the purpose of a wide lens), i dont see a use for filters.

There is no "right" filter for stills vs video. ND filters all do the same thing. In simplest explanation:

The number just indicates how much light they cut. The higher the number, the more light they cut.

This applies not matter if your images are still or moving. For video, this may be more important due the fact you'll be shooting at specific shutter speeds to get the look you want, and in those situations, you cannot just increase your shutter speed to reduce the amount of exposure time. An ND filter gives you flexibility. Of course, this applies to stills as well.

The 3 filters DJI is selling right now for a minimum 1 month ship time at best.

So I went to PolarPro and they have 7 filters for the Phantom 4 Pro, one of they being just a UV filter (does the P4P come with a generic UV filter?), can you all take a look and tell me what you think about the 2 different lens series they have.

What are your thoughts? Would it be wise to get the pack of 6? One of the series doesn't come with an ND4 but the other comes with an ND4/PL.

I currently own a phantom 4 and am going to upgrade to the pro when I get the Money needed. I was curious if the Polar Pro filters are compatible between the p4 and p4p?

Now if I can find a petal style lense shade for the P4P...  Anyone?

Different filters for different circumstances, but if I had to pick one, it's definitely ND8. On a sunny day, it's usually overexposed with f/2.8 and underexposed at f/11, so you can choose a value between those numbers without touching the shutter speed or ISO.

The filter sets will ussually have 1 Stop between them and often miss the first Stop

ND4 is -2 Stops
ND8 is -3 Stops
ND16 is - 4 Stops
ND32 is - 5 Stops

Each Stop is half/double the light. So with a fixed Aperture 1 Stop would make the shutter speed twice as long.
eg. No Filter ISO100  f2.8  1/1000th with an ND8 fitted will become  ISO100  f2.8  1/125th. To get 1/60th you would fit the ND16 instead.

From experience the more expensive filters have less colour cast than the cheaper versions. The choice is to spend the money and know it is OK or save the money and spend a few seconds in Post to do a correction. Personally I save the money and correct as it's something I would be checking anyway.

Aren't those ND filters kind of high for everyday use? What do you think about their 4ND/PL 8ND/PL and 16ND/PL? Would those be a good choice for photos and video and everyday use? I'm live in Texas so there aren't as many opportunities to block out snow or water as much.
