My pahntom pro plus controller has a sd card slot with a card in it.  What is it for?  Do videos recorded get stored there?

No it does not, and if you think so then you are no better.

It  is used, if needed, to update the RC firmware.

I believe it is there only for updating the software.  Videos record on the card in the drone, otherwise the quality wouldn't be as good because the video transmitted to the controller is of lower quality.
