I cannot get a single firmware upgrade to work. Before trying to upgrade to the latest firmware, everything was fine. Now, I can record video, I can control stuff, but no video feed. Controller is fully updated, but drone will not go through any firmware update and give me a "success", even though the app shows that the version is "current", and that it has succeeded. The firmware has obviously NOT succeeded, as I can't get video feed. So, I am stuck not knowing what version I am at, or how to upgrade. I've tried rolling back too. Doesn't work. Drone is literally BRICKED by the latest update. What the hell do I do? Somebody tell me what the hell this means? Super common problem by the looks of it, yet no resolution ...

Remove the app from your phone or tablet and restart it.
Install app at new. That worked for me.

Tried that. The problem lies with "package upgrade failed". Seems to be common, but the only fix I hear is "send to DJI". Basically, DJI knows that upgrading non-incrementally destroys a phantom 3, but says nothing about that, and only offers repair service ($$$) as a solution. If any of you have fixed this on your own, please let me know...

The old wishdom: do not fix it, if it is not broken.

The app made me. Said an update was "required".

What FW are you on and have you put it on a formatted card and put it in the AC?
It's better to just turn the RC off while you do this.

Yes, did everything properly. Please review log to see the common failure everyone is experiencing with this. App shows current firmware versions for all, but it is only certain that RC is current, as the app may report incorrectly as part of this problem..

Hi Pgregory, I have checked your update log file, the video transmission module is corrupted.
Sorry to tell you that you will need to send it in for further evaluation.

Yes, but here is the thing. That is the response from DJI every time. BUT.. the video worked perfectly fine until I updated. The module was fine. So if it is messed up, that means the firmware fried it. I saw video, updated, no video. If I send this in... it will cost what? It is not under warranty anymore.

So being that there is a hardware fault, DJI will replace this for free, and all I will have to pay is shipping and handling?

Thanks,

Phil

If it is out of warranty? No, you will have to pay shipping and repairs.

I had a similar issue, but mine was with the gimbal. After my Android Phone updated to Android 7, I had to update the app, which I had purposefully kept on an old version. As soon as I updated the app, I had to update the firmware, and it hosed my gimbal. I am going to have to send it in for repairs now. I liked just keeping the old version going with older firmware, not happy with being "required" to update, resulting in a hosed system.

Then I'm not sending it in. This is DJI's fault not mine. If they can't make it right, I'll buy a drone from a different manufacturer.

Exactly. Finally someone who gets what's going on. The firmware is destroying hardware. DJI refuses to admit this.

Here it is, from DJI ken. This issue is everywhere:

"if you lost video after a update then somehow your video transmission module got corrupted. Even if the aircraft is out of warranty, DJI will still repair it at no charge as long as there's no physical damage."

Yeah, "somehow" the module got corrupted. IT WAS CORRUPTED BY FAULTY FIRMWARE....
By the way, this firmware error can also completely render the USB module useless. I had to buy an HDMI hub to get the controller update working. So yeah, firmware is frying hardware...

Thanks,

Sorry Phil, if your aircraft is not under warranty period anymore, we cannot replace or fix the drone for free.

That contradicts what DJI ken said in another thread. He said that this is a fault that has been well-known and that it would be replaced free of charge.

Here is the link with DJI ken noting this exact problem and saying that repairs would be FREE. Many customers have also confirmed that the repair is free. I need confirmation, or the drone goes in the garbage.

DJI...

Please learn to be a better company and get your crap together:

"if you lost video after a update then somehow your video transmission module got corrupted. Even if the aircraft is out of warranty, DJI will still repair it at no charge as long as there's no physical damage."

- DJI KEN

Explain this.
