Hi Murph,
Having exactly same issue here. How did you manage to solve your problem?
I can't connect the RC with aircraft anymore.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Here is a short version of the update instructions on the DJI web Site and in the Upgrade instructions included with v.17.  Try again and see if this works.  They worked for me
Format the SD card. Do a clean install of the v.17 bin file. Insert the SD card into the camera. Do not turn the Tx on, do not start the App. Turn on the Inspire and listen to the beeps that the camera produces. When it consistently beeps dah, dah-dah. It is done and you can turn the Inspire off. Remove the SD card and read the txt file. It should say success or cancel. Both indicate that you have completed the upgrade. Now to the Tx. Format a USB drive and install the v.17 bin file. Insert the USB drive in the USB port on the Tx and then power the Tx. After a few minutes it will begin to beep. When the beeps stop and the led turns green you are done. You can power down the Tx and remove the USB drive. I would check the txt file on the root directory just to confirm success. That completes the upgrade process. Power the Tx, then the App and then the Inspire. If the Tx and the Inspire are not bound you can go into the App and click on bind the Tx. Make sure that you press the small button on the Inspire so the Rx led is blinking red. (written by Tahoe Ed)

I too have the exact same problem ... followed the update instructions to the letter and same result as above.
Have contacted support, waiting for an answer.  Hope they come up with a solution for this asap.
Searching around looks like changing the gimbal may fix it but hope to avoid this.

Meantime any other suggestions much appreciated???

Update:

After reading many related forum posts, most of which suggested reattaching the gimbal and even replacing the gimbal to resolve the issue, I found this :
http://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=9426 which had the following posted by “arunmehta”

What happens if :Charge batterry fully>> Clean the contacts(batterry and gimble) with contact cleaner>> reattach the gimble with camera after cleaning contacts >>
get a new card 10+ grade>> format FAT 32 >> put new firmware bin  on it nothing else>> push into inspire while off>> Turn the inspire on>>> (leave remote AND app off>>> wait ....let me know>>
Prior to this I had tried everything else, re-attaching the gimbal, a fully charged battery and a formatted micros SD card with only the .bin file (although the card itself was not new).

As suggested, I cleaned the gimbal and gimbal attachment contacts with electrical cleaner and a soft toothbrush after which I reattached the gimbal.  Since I was unable to continue immediately, I then left this setup overnight although not sure if this will have helped or not.

When I switched the aircraft on this morning, it proceeded to successfully upgrade the firmware within about 10 minutes.  After this, I proceeded to update the RC firmware which went seamlessly.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same or similar issue!!

Sorry to hear, but its bricked!  Exact same thing happened to be.  I shipped mine back to the dealer I bought it from, and they are working with DJI to get me a replacement.
