Hi,
What do you guys use to preview 4K HEVC files from the Phantom? I have VLC 2.2.4 and it only shows the first 1-3 frames, then freezes or turns gray. I'm playing from an SSD with an Intel i7-6700K and Titan X (Pascal). Clearly this is not a performance issue but something else..

Same problem with VLC on MacBook Pro with an i7.

I also tried a nighlty 3.0 of VLC which had the same issue. I don't think the files are damaged because they play, albeit slowly, in Premiere CC 2017 but thats not ideal for quick previews and sorting.

WHY Cant i edit a post older than two minutes DJI?!?! Its stupid.

Anyway: I was eventually able to play the files using Windows Media Player (Win 10). Of all the options im quite surprised that worked. I did install LAV filters but then uninstalled them and it still works.

Aloha mac,

     You are not alone, I was also surprised!  I guess we need to invest in some new technology to get to the editing stage.  But, I have not tried DaVinci 12.5 yet with this code.

Davinci Studio plays the files fine, yet again its an editor. I found however that both Windows Media Player and MPC (Media Player Classic) plays the files fine.. Im surprised VLC still has issues..

     Yes, I agree, considering VLC still has a leading edge in video players.  I have had other problems with VLC too recently.

I found IINA on osx a bit better - far from great but slowing down the playback to around 50% I can at least preview. Premiere CC 2015.2 handles the edits and plays the hvec 4k files on my 2012 macpro 12core 64gb nviidia gtx660 (not on 4k monitor just display in HD)
I'm virtually heating my study with macpro 12-core churning through 100mbs h265 to watch them  in 4K  - my LG 79" tv tops out at 50mbps so I can't play the native DJI files and have to recompress every thing I record in 4k to watch in 4K.
I didn't appreciate how hardware decoding was needed - I took my 100mbps 4K files into work and tried them on macpro 2013 12core 64gb dual D700...same performance as my 2012mp in VLC and IINA....seems hardware accelerator needed for h265 - assume there's some little chip in my tv handling this as it never skips a beat.

This is a tutorial talks about DJI Inspire 2 HEVC playback in VLC. It may also work for your Phantom H.265 footage.
