I just did the firmware update on my I1.  I have 3 batteries in total.  Do I need to restart the update process with the two remaining batteries?

From my experience and info from DJI support, if there is a battery update in the firmware it will be automatically update if you insert a new battery.

When I called the phone support, they told me there is no need to leave update files on the SD card. I think its logical, since the Inspire already has the newest update installed, and it will install it automatically from the bird to battery if there is an update

Leave it on the SD card until your sure all your batteries have been cycled into the aircraft and where able to access the .bin file.
You may get a battery error if you remove the firmware .bin file before all the batteries in your collect have cycled through.
