Okay guys,

I am seasoned here and have flown a lot. I have seen posts where you guys have had your P4P's up to 50+mph - I have had my P4 up to 59mph once myself. HOWEVER - my P4P under the same conditions, limits itself to 45-46 mph, no matter how hard I try (same wind conditions, etc.) I have noticed in sports mode when it approaches those speeds, the radar power readout actually drops power signifigantly as opposed to flying into the wind.. Could I have a newer version of the P4P where they have limited the speed for some reason? I have tested this with the two latest iterations of firmware without any change. It flies beautifully, but it has a definite speed limit on it compared to my P4. I have said something in other forums without any real feedback excpept mine goes faster..

This is not something that has anything to do with IMU cals etc.. As stated before it flies great, just curious about the speed limiting..

According to the specs for the P4 pro:
Max Speed        S-mode: 45 mph (72 kph)
The only way to go faster than that would be with a tailwind assist.

I know that's what I am saying though.. With a tailwind, it only goes 45-46.. My P4 on the same day same height flying the same direction was flying an average with the tailwind of 53 - 59 mph.. Took the P4P up on the same day same time (both in the air) and it would only max out at 46 mph. Others in the forums and reviewers on YouTube have had their P4P at speeds matching the P4..  So........ That is why I have the question about speed.. I know what these guys can and can't do and I have the spec memorized, I have flown over 200+ miles.. I just think that it is interesting that the P4P seems to be governed or at least mine does..

My top speed with my p4 pro is 58 mph with a tailwind. I haven't noticed it being any slower than my old p4. I had a really close call on my last flight in sport mode so I'm giving it a break for a while. The p4p flies fast enough in standard mode.

Now that you mention it mine (P4P) does the same thing. When you know the headwind is 15 mph when you take it out, turn it around it should register close to 60 coming back and it doesn't.
I've had my P3A above 55 mph many times. It's like you said once it approaches the 43 mph it governs the throttle through the gps maybe?

I had my P4P+ up to about 70 MPH the other day with a very strong tail wind, sucker was moving!

Did you get your P4P about three months ago as well (ordered mine from DJI directly). I am wondering if it's a new thing they are doing with the newer units and the first batches that came out they didn't have that.. And yes it would have to be by GPS.. I had it flying past me and I could hear the motors actually lowering power (pulsing almost) as it flew by at 45mph.. Same flight with the P4 and it was giving full power and hauling butt!

Crazy. I did just watch a review with the Inspire 2 vs Phantom 4 Pro.. In this video during speed tests, the Inspire 2 he said seemed like it's speed was "artificially limited" 52 miles per hour, where in the same case the P4Pro got up to 60 miles per hour.. Something weird is going on and I am SOO curious to find out what it is.. Go to the 4:50 mark in this video and you can see what I am talking about..

2 firmware updates ago, DJI limited the top speed in P mode of the P4Pro.  The only way to get it faster is with a tailwind in Atti mode.

I finally tried the the other day and you are right.. Any thoughts why they did this to apparently some of the units??

So weird.. I am frustrated by it only because when it is limiting it's speed - it sounds weird.. it isn't smooth like you might think. I love the way the P4 sounds when it it going by throttle wide open.. The ONLY time I hear that from the P4P is when it is flying upwind - or in ATTI mode..

If you don't like the speed limited, you need to email support@dji.com or DJI-Ken and complain about this.

It is limited in sport mode as well. Only in ATTI mode can one go faster.

I tried.. DJI support said to send it in for repair.. It does not need repair, what it is doing is programmed just like the Inspire 2..  Plus I just got it back from repair for gimbal vibration and DJI did a flight test and tested all the systems and found no issue (Surprise)..  I'll try to get a hold of one of the moderators here..

This P4P was bought late February. I'm thinking there are other factors structurally that maybe DJI feels the unit can't handle when hitting 70 mph that's why they limit it. Say an abrupt reverse at that speed or a combination of wind gusts to quick control stick movements?
I thought sport mode WAS ATTI mode? I must have missed that in the instructions

When I first got my p4p top speed in sport was 47.3. Now it's 29.3 in every mode. Why and when???  Also with me and my spotter we use to get this thing going over 3 miles and now when it gets to a mile away it looses signal with the remote. Not only that but even right over my head  my screen turns green and pixelates some. Yesterday is the first Tim my spotter and I got it out in a month for a shoot and I had to update firmware and noticed all this. What's going on???

Try turning off obstacle avoidance for a start.
You could also check to see that you have multiple flight modes enabled.

Multiple flight modes makes sense because my settings reverted to default after the update but I don't understand why I have to turn off oa. I never had to b4. I'll check flight modes and respond back. What about the distance? And the strength of the remote connection

I would refresh your firmware as well if that doesn't work.. Sometimes that does help with issues.

Check your transmitter settings under the controller settings.. Change it to auto 5.8 or 2.4.. I would use 5.8 if you are in an urban or suburban area..

I always use 5.8ghz but now a lot of the modems att and cable company offers are in transitional 2.4/5.8. Out subdivision att just overlayed fiber for giga power and all the modems are 5.8 so that's probably what it is. I'll take it somewhere in the woods or park and try it out. Thanks for the help

The record logs in GO are error-prone. It is a known bug. If you actually review the actual flight logs you will see it is nowhere near that.

Replay that flight and you'll se that 81.9 mph is actually 81.9 km/h  or 50.9 mph
If the wind was strong enough to hit 80 mph you wouldn't have got the Phantom back again.

Real quick, your top altitude is not your top altitude in flight.. You don't need to black that out. It is the highest point you have ever taken off from..

Exactly   I am glad I skipped over that version.. my highest speed achieved yet on my P4 is 55.3mph - yet my P4P is still (in sport mode) only 45mph (everything turned off sensor wise).. In atti mode I got up to 52.9mph though..

I spoke with a DJI representative on this subject. I was informed that the newer models of the DJI Phantom 4 Pro and the Inspire 2 have been Limited due to motor failures in the sport mode. I guess this is something we'll just have to learn to live with

Unfortunately you can't believe everything that DJ reps tell you.
And this one doesn't sound believable.
