I am using a spark with remote controller and a smartphone for live feed
How far can you go before losing the live video feed
Mine is gone on open field already after 200 meters = 650 feet
Do you guys have the same issue?

Yes, I begin to have signal break up and freezing at around that same distance. If I let off the sticks, it will regain connection. Frustrating to lose site of where I am heading.

using RC and OTG cable and having my S8 in airplane mode, i managed around 1200 feet... 2.4Ghz connection RC to Spark (manually have to do most times)..  around 600 feet it got lossy and laggy.. but it kept going another 600+ feet (around 1200 feet) until it decided not to have signal..  then it relinked and came back..  

on 5.8Ghz i gotten it out 678 feet before it completely dropped signal, video quality was lossy as you exact but it was sudden stop of signal gave me a worry.. i was expecting lost video but still have control, but no aircraft disconnected suddenly..   luckily after running down the road a bit around 200 feet into my sprint it relinked...

i wouldn't dare push that far again, unless DJI really fixes these fly away issues... my drone has flown away number of times..... so i try to keep it much closer now..

Using wifi to RC 2.4ghz 510 metres no otg.

Using wifi, no otg, 5,8ghz ~200m and lose picture. Altitude ~350m and lose picture.

yesterday loss signal 120mt

today no loss signal 430mt...

RC 5.8ghz - 1000 feet (304m) before the video starts lagging badly.
RC via OTG - 2765 feet (842m) and the video is still really good but brought back home.

Today 880M at 120M altitude rc 2.4Ghz with otg.

I just had the same experience.  Vision lost at approx 120m still clearly visible, open air direct LOS. Bit annoying really.

There is to be ... that I had a WIfi Jungle, I was on the edge of my town. I had a sort of small valley I think the signal is disturbed.

My Pathfinder (my SPark ) went zigzag moving 5cm.

I thought it was blame for the wind ... but he also did it in absentia.

Then 3 hypotheses:

1 - the camera under the spark, reveals the tall grass and can cause this movement (tall grass at low grass)

2- wifi jungle interference with the compass.

3-wind and wifi interferences not good for my SPark!


I had calibrated before the flight.

But it was not aligned with my smartphone.


This is my Sunday experience.

That is really anoying when i see posts like this, when peopels goes 800m, with no problems at all. Im starting to have lags and video losses around 150m distance at ~70m attitude. Im starting to concerning contac to DJI support for some repair.

If that's the case it's 250 metres above all other countries around the world. You might be advised to check the rules, you are in manned aircraft space and run the risk of collision with manned aircraft.

I ve used my new spark about two dozen times in the last week with RC and otg. I ve had it up to  3700' distance a couple of times (no more than 100' altitude) with most of the flights in the 2000' range. No issues whatsoever, no lag, no picture loss

I think the keys are...

Limited interference in the area
Keep the antennas perpendicular to the drone
Make sure nothing stands between the antennas and the drone incl your own body
Keep the phone in airplane mode

With most flights done from the boat I was concerned about interference from the running generator,  electronics and the big lumps of iron in the Engine room but turned out to be a non issue.

Quality of the footage is incredible, as good as Mavic and far better than a P2 with GoPro 4

Thanks, i found rules, and read them all. Max alt is 120m

ill guess your flying in Austria, then your range is drastiy reduced due to CE region and low transmissionpower.

DJI states the range in CE without interferences with 300m on 5G and 500m on2.4Ghz

My spark always uses 5G and ill only get it to change to 2.4 with OTGUSB
with 2.4 and USB i can get over the 500m but its hard to see the spark at further distance. video gets laggy but usable. andorid (honor 6x) maybe at fault to or at least the bad djigo performance on android.

ill guess its a big factor with laggy video. i had a laggy liveview but the cache video didnt lag as bad. (no import from sd). probably the phone/app isnt good enough to render the stream.

i really like a option for lowres liveview, even SD if that improves video lag and artifacts

That site is not updated for italy.

I just read that I can fly 70mt height and 200mt in length.

The site reports 70 and 150.

Do not rely on non-governmental sites. Read the rules from your institution's site.


However since 2018 in Europe everything changes.(better for us)

furthest flight so far was 3000ft , video was still solid only reason I stopped was I got scared.

Wow I manage to get mine 20m away when the video starts to break and is completely gone at 50m and returns home

yes yes yes...!  see i did my 1200 foot run as one of my first flights.. sort of....  my first 2 charges of the battery packs (i had 2)  i kept it close learned the controls... then after complete recharge of both packs and an hour of down time i took it back out and pushed it...  if i knew how poor sparky would behave i wouldn't have dared to do that... i got lucky on that run.   technically i think i flew it further out than 1200 feet thinking about it now...  according to the GPS i was overtop of a store that is about half mile away, i was flying it stupid high.. 500+ feet up... (not controlled airspace and no air traffic in our area).

having the spark misbehave arms length away i feel like lady luck was on my side...   

i had all sort of interesting things occur with my Spark.. including while fighting on low signal, it just resets it home point there where it is..i intentionally didn't take off until i have a marked homepoint that was close enough.....   500 feet away and 300 feet up.. "home point has been reset"  wtf? then i have to go into menu set home point there where i am....because ...just why?

i was flying it around my friend's block once.. which is one of the most wifi dense areas... apartments upon apartments.. which by the way, i do not recommend flying spark over wifi dense areas... it gave me a compass error and flipped my spark into Atti mode..no GPS lock anymore.. clear sky...  Atti mode.. 700 feet away from me?!?  where i cannot see you and my video is chop city becuse of all the interference..   luckily, while i am new drone flyer, i did manage to butter the bread and bring her home and land her safely..flew her up 300 feet and back... never regained GPS until it was out of that neighborhood..  compass error did not seem to affect it too much.. but it wasn't happy..  amazing GPS even got negatively impacted somehow...

Using OTG and after firmware update on 7/26 I had no issue at 3100 ft and 250 ft elevation. Probably could have gone even further since I hadn't received any warnings before turning back.

Under 400 ft alt i can always get 4000 to 5000 ft i did get 6500 one time this was on 5.8 ghz u.s. i find the same with p4pro normally you would want 2.4 because its stronger but there is so much interfernce its bad on 5.8 i managed 41000 ft with pro so i dont mind 5.8!

i have had my spark out 865 meters(2838 feet) in sport mode with absolutely no image transmission problems. i could have gone further for sure.(No OTG on 5.8Ghz)

Without otg your range is quite normal. Unfortunately thats what we get in EU. Usually it is about half of DJIs advertised range in EU. So on 5.8ghz they say 300max (i get 150-200). On 2.4 I would have to check but they claim 500m so I expect 300-400max.

Same experience in Spain... 5 ghz max 350 meters and in 2.4Ghz config with OTG I have te reset every time I turn on/off the spark.

So we only have 200-300 meters to fly our spark, not enough en many ocasions.

if you flight high is even worse. At least we would like to flight safety up to 120 m heigh and 500 m far away, that is the regulation in Europe, but it is imposible.

the issue with rc and otg. everytime u have to connect spark with phone. connect 2.4 and then connect with rc. it is annoying for person like us with RC!
