Recording in 1080p h264 codec. I cant view the videos unless i use VLC or MXPlayer. I cant edit them using any editing apps on android because they dont recognize the dji .mp4 codec. I have to convert them first using a different app. However when using those apps, amd selecting to keep the original quality it seems as if they do not come out as clear.

Does anyome have any success using any converter apps? Or is there a better way to edit on my android? I shoot in 4k and edit in adobe on my pc. But i want to easily be able to shoot in 1080p, pop the sd card in my android phone or tablet, and edit quickly. Any help?

Aloha nmaffei,

In the DCIM folder, there is a 720p version of your 4K and 1080p vidos.  The subfolder is 100.

     Hope this helps!

The DJI GO 4 supports to edit the 1080P or lower resolution, you can have a try.

Aloha nmaffei,

In the DCIM folder, there is a 720p version of your 4K and 1080p vidos.  The subfolder is 100.

But i would like to edit them in 1080p. I shoot all videos in mp4 h264 codec. WHen i pull my SD and plug into the phone, the 1080p (and even the 720p) videos in the DCIM folder, cannot be edited using any android apps (powerdirector, kinemaster, etc) because it seems android wont support the dji h264 mp4 codec. They also cannot be played with video players other than VLC or Mx. So my question is 2 part:

1. Is there a way to pull videos directly from the SD in 1080p, and edit them on Android apps, or play in video player, without having to convert it to a mp4 codec compatible with android?

2. If not, what app do you use to convert to a codec that android supports before editing?

Have you tried to edit in the DJI app?

yes this only lets you edit the cached copy which is a streamed version of 720p video

Aloha nmaffei,

Could the problem be that your display will not handle 1080p video?  It would be hard to convert to a resolution that cannot be displayed.  I am sure it can be done, but you are asking for some serious number crunching there.  As Nebuchadnezzar suggested, using a PC would be much easier and faster.  Both PowerDirector and KineMaster come in PC versions.  The Windows 10 video player can handle 4K video real well.  I use the Corel Video Studio 5 for editing.  It may be up to 10.5 by now.

I did just locate a 1080p, h264 codec, mp4 video I recently converted from a 4K P3 Pro video (.mov) and played it flawlessly on my old Samsung Galaxy TabPro.  Because of your issue, I was curious if it would play OK.

Tablets and phones appear to still be lightweights when it comes to high resolution videos.  My nVideo Shield K1 is set for 4K video, and I have played 4K video on it, but never noticed that it was difficult.  Of course the resolution was stepped down to my 8 inch screens resolution (which I forget what that is but it is above 1080p).  But the nVideo Shield K1 is a screaming gaming machine in the tablet world.  Too bad they do not make them any more.

     Hope this helps!

I have a Galaxy Note 8, it can handle 1080p easy. Like you said, you converted it. The issue is not that my phone cannot play 1080p. There are many h264 codecs, and even though i record in h264 mp4, it wont play, unless i run it through a converter first.

MP4 is for use with Apple products.  You need to change your video file save settings in the DJI Go App.

I can't remember the other choices - but I'm sure I've seen the option to save your files as one type - regardless of resolution.

It looks like you have a handle on the issue then.

incorrect. Mp4 is not for apple products. MOV is for Apple products. The 2 options to record in are MOV and MP4. MP4 is for Android/PC. The issue is not MP4, it is the DJI Codec

I have the same issue in a DJI spark... but i think that the problem is with the firmware because on .0005 version i can open videos in any android App but after .0006 until last .0009 happens exactly what you said..just VLC opens and no other APP opens the files (samasung galery or google photos) after firmware update I tried to downgraded spark to .0005 and every app on Android is back normal opening all videos.

Did you solve the problem?

Welcome to my world nmaffei34. I'm in the same boat, I've got a P4 with the S8+ as my phone and I've had the same issue.

This has been the biggest pain with DJI products.  I used to have a Yuneec drone back in the day and the files could be played on my Note 4 and edited with Samsung video editor/ uploaded to Instagram/ ect.

I tried every video format and file type on the P4; none will play native on the S8+ programs or Instagram, which sucks cause that's where I post all my stuff.

One trick I found was to transfer the file to my windows computer first then copy them to my S8+.  Windows then asks to converts the file to a .wmv format or some other format that my S8+ can handle.

Ive been using an app called MediaConverter. it will allow you to convert the DJI file into MP4 H264 that plays on Android and any other device. Also it will convert in up to 4k.  Simple fix. Check it out.

If you video is not supported, you may use iDealshare VideoGo which can convert between various video format.
