I filed for a FAA exemption last month but I have some real-estate contacts right now that are wanting me to do some aerial photography. What is a realistic charge for photos and 2-3 minute videos of a property? For anyone who has done real-estate shoots, what are your rates or do you have a per-job charge?

You could always do it as a 'freebie' and use the shots and footage to promote yourself while waiting for your FFA exam/results, that way you wont get busted.

This might give you some ideas
Not much, but an interesting discussion (read Fred's post).

Some interesting stuff here too

I think a lot of these are talking inside, but rates and resoning are given.  Just some stuff from a quick web search.

I would say $150. is not unreasonable.  You will likely have to edit the video, add sound etc.

I was a pilot about 30 years ago and would charge 100 - 150/hr with a minimum of $500.  Depending on the shoot, SLR film camera, I'd fly a hi-wing Cessna.  It was fun and well worth the effort.  Remember, there are a lot more expenses involved with a manned aircraft BUT it wasn't instant either.

Amazing what you can do today with digital cameras and software.

you should make a rate card; half day, full day and multi day rates.  list what is included, is it shooting only or shooting and editing.  you have to decide.

I am a licensed home inspector and was thinking of offering some free video clips of listings that might look good on realtor's web sites....and maybe in return drum up some inspection business. Maybe you could offer a few freebies to see how they like it. Realtors like freebies.

Give them the raw unedited video, if they like it, they can give it back to you and you can charge for editing the video and put to music and words.

A friend of mine does that.  He got taken to court and they had to drop the case against him for making money on video from drones.  He only charged for the editing of a video the bank real estate office gave him.  I was involved because I was the spotter and his wife operated the camera while he did the flying.

I have seen, in the SouthEast US, $25-$50 for aerial real estate photos and $150-$200 for a 1 minute video. I think of the video portion of real estate as "the wrapper" of the candy bar. Anymore than a 1 minute video of outside is too much. I typically compile 4 - 15 second clips of outside. Only thing that requires more than one minute is farms and large estates.

Brian, I did a practice video of a ranch. 2 minutes was a little short. But perhaps if I had not flown to the river it would be a lot shorter.

Really neat Oak! Hey, did you drop the video quality for upload to YouTube? If not, you might want to check your video setting and change it to 720p 60fps. It seemed like some of the video was breaking up. Beautiful piece though! My wife is a horse person, she'd love that place! Really cool!

I'm thinking of doing the same.......Real Estate pics and even some of the local factories need inspections of smoke stacks. We had a commercial grain silo partially explode and if I had my P2V then I would of helped the fire department. I was thinking $50 for four pics and they choose whichever one or all to use. $100 for a 30 second video. These are small residential homes so more than 30 seconds seems redundant.
