I have the Phantom 4 Pro and use my iPhone 6splus for the controler.  Works great but want a bigger screen and a more permante controller that using my iPhone as I have been flying before and get popups and or cell calls that can really mess with you during a flight.  I want to get a iPad mini but dont want to spend a fortune as it will only be used as the controller.  I take it I only need one with WiFi only so I want to purchase used.  Is there a better series as I know there is an ipad mini v1, v2, v3, v4.  Of course the v1's are cheaper but cant find the requirements for the controller and want to make sure I dont get an under powered controller.  Can someone tell me whats the best ipad mini to purchase.....

Thanks Mike

I'd get the Mini 4, it's what I have. I've seen some pretty good sales due to the Christmas holiday. The biggest reason I'd go with the mini 4, it won't be obsolete as soon and it works really well.

Currently using my iPhone Plus...but thinking about picking up a Mini 4 as well. May be shopping around for one.

Which one do you have, wifi only or cellular ?

Hoping to open a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 in a few days.  Android isn't all bad - and the resolution is top notch.

Maybe worth a look.

To run GO v4.1.x you need a minimum A8X CPU to handle the transmission decoding adequately. That puts the Mini 1 and 2 out. Also suggest you consider the Air 2.

If you opt for the slightly pricier cellular version, it comes with the GPS module built in...
That can be beneficial, depending on your use...
I find it useful, to have the ability to change your dynamic home point. Or using Follow Me.
As well, if you do have a cellular network, you can live stream your flights to a Facebook account, or your YouTube channel.

Both actually. I have 3 birds, Spark, Mavic and Phantom 4 Pro. I usually fly with the cellular one and have the WiFi version in case a family member (usually my grandson) wants to fly with me.

It insures your ability of those future use advantages.

A No brainier, if you were to ask anyone with the Cellular version.

I started this journey with an iPad Mini. The screen is still too small.
I went back and traded up, to the iPad Air2 Cellular, and have never had a problem or concern, ever.

I agree, that's why I use the cellular one and let the grandson use the WiFi one

It's interesting to me, considering and forcasting the future of drone capabilities.

Wondering about all the next new features and innovative functionality.

I could kick myself. Had the iPadAir 2 but got rid of it.

Yeah, I had read quite a few positive reviews on the various RC drone forums, that seemed to make it a Best Buy item. It was a blessing, that I have had such great experiences, using mine with the trouble free Phantom 3 Pro.
I don't know why such good luck was bestowed upon me... But I am thankful.

Hi Mike, the first generation of iPad mini is not the recommended device by DJI, so I myself won't suggest you purchase it if you are using it for running DJI GO 4.
I think you can refer to the compatibility devices list below. BTW, just a warm prompt, Follow me and refresh the current position as the Homepoint will not work if the mobile device doesn't equip with a GPS module. Hope it and other users will provide you with some tips. devide support list.png

Go for a Mini 4 with Cellular. I use mine for My Inspire and P4P. Never had any issues with it.

It's surprising how light and manueverable the iPad Air2 is... The larger screen is marvelous...  ;-)

There are two confusing iPad 4 Minis available. The current one is 128gb and expensive. There are, I assume older ones with 16/32/64/128 gb memory. Lots on here refer to iPad 4 mini, but which one? Older or newer.

Always go newer!  64gb minimum.  Check the processor specs, get the newest one you can afford, and then some.
