I dont have any issues "yet" with the new firmware and according to the app I am up to date with both the bird and controller. My question is why does the controller show up as an unknown device in the DJI 2 assistant?
Curious, which version of Assistant 2 are you using? Version 1.1.6 or 1.1.8?
I tried 1.1.8 in Windows 10-64 and the Microsoft Defender anti-virus threw up a red "Severe" notice after a few hours and quarantined it as having a Trojan. Didn't happen with older 1.1.6 though. Maybe your Apple device may have done the same with 1.1.8 and why it's not recognizing the device? I since deleted all of it and found a version of 1.1.6 to replace it.

1.1.6 is the only one I see on the downloads page for the P4P

I also found and tried DJIA2 1.1.8 and the same "unknown device" message. Apparently the RC has to be updated by the app. Doesn't make sense and I like to use a computer and not worry about using an iPhone to do firmware upgrades on a 1k plus piece of equipment.

The aircraft can be upgraded using either method, but as you say, RC is via App' only (jump to 2:35 for RC):-
