I went to a local park and tried to hit trees, bushes, fenses, light poles.  The MA2 is am amazing drone.  In another test, i was able to hit the nylon netting behind home plate.  It beeped like crazy, but still went into the netting.  Apparently thin nylon confused it.  It knew something was there, but could not identify where it was.  Metal chain link fenses give it no trouble.  The video of the flight is at:

Never say never but I'm happy with the MA2 overall - it was my own stupid mistake and the brand new replacement is flawless

Either your aim is lousy or the collision avoidance system is brilliant  

I have the M2Zoom which also has side detection, but I'm not about to try your
experiment for myself!

Nice test, it's worked well in my own experience so far.  At least forwards and backwards...

I've wondered about using it to fly up a slope. Too chicken to try it!

Just a reminder that if the DJI Mavic Air 2 is flying forward : The drone brakes when an obstacle is sensed from in front and flies backward to a safe distance. It ascends until no obstacle is sensed ad continues to ascend another 5m and then continues to fly forward. No operation will occur when an obstacle is sensed from behind. The drone brakes when an obstacle from below and ascends until no obstacle is sensed before flying forward. Thank you.
