I don't think I have the ability to record my arm and wrist while I use the drone
I'm just moving my wrist, I'm not moving my arm to turn.
Plus, the drone turns, it's just that it turns opposite of the direction that I am turning the motion controller.

It could be that our lingo is just different, but I think that may possibly be what is going wrong.  You shouldn’t be flexing your wrist up and down or side to side. Instead your wrist should be locked in a straight line with threat of your arm and instead be rotated.

Are you bending your wrist or twisting your wrist? You are supposed to twist your wrist left and right not bend it just in case that's what you are doing.

Also, just to rule out one other thing. When doing this, are you looking through the goggles or are you looking at the drone while it's facing you? Because if it's the goggles, then you must be twisting your wrist incorrectly. If you are visually looking at the drone and its camera is facing you, then that's normal for it to turn right with left movement and vice versa.  I'm just trying to look at all angles here that may be wrong since we can't see what you are doing.

well, when I move my whole arm left or right keeping my wrist straight the drone does not turn.
the drone will only turn when it I turn the controller left or right by moving my wrist.  keeping my arm pointed straight ahead, when I move the controller left or right with my wrist the drone changes its direction of flight however it is opposite of the movement I make.

As I understand it twisting left or right will turn the drone (and that works) but what I am trying to do is change the direction of flight which does not work for me.
I guess it's all academic at this point since I just packed up the thing and sent it back to amazon.

But, when using the Goggles 2 (not the DJI FPV Goggles V2 !!!) you can do something "similar" by turning your head (if this function has been activated)...
Yes, the motion controller only allows "flying forward"...
That's why flying backwards doesn't work either.
For such functions you have to use the DJI FPV Controller 2...

I guess you can't read. I sent the drone back as per DJI customer service directions.

May i suggest you do something about the way you communicate.... your overall tone in your messages.....

Big chance that if you would have provided the info other users (including me) asked for, you would not have to return the drone...

Doing it like this does not help anyone with the same issue! Removing your replys does not help others.

(maybe keep in mind that people only try to help, but looking at the way you reply, that is not something you did here....)

DJI customer support is not always right, and the user asking for tips (you, in this instance) took the "return to DJI route" to quickly on more than one occasion .

But hey, it's your time without this awsome drone.... not mine... i learned from the youtube video another user posted here and got mine flying with the MC like a dream
