I have just downloaded and installed the new firmware update for the P3S. I am now topping off all the batteries before a test flight.  For information purpose, here is the sequence of events:

Connect device to internet via wifi. Launch DJI-Go ap.  It will tell you updates available. Select to download.  When download is finished, connect device to P3 wifi. Select to start update.
P3 will start beeping,  4 beeps in a row,  continuous. Camera status led blinks alternate red/green.  At about 21% installed, the P3 status lights will go off. Now the only lights will be the camera and battery status lights.  At about 81% the aircraft status lights come back on. At 100 % the 4 beeps stop.  just around 90 % the RC will only show 1 green light.  At 100% it returns to normal also. You are now instructed to restart P3 and controller.  Good luck


I will do a test flight and post results shortly

I was reluctant to upgrade, but decided to bite the bullet.  Actually the download and install went without a hitch, and the test flight had no issues for me.

The install went very smoothly with no surprises. I have not yet been able to fly due to very high wind conditions.

Pity ! But don't worry , good weather is aways on the way !

Not much improvement in the weather, we traded high winds for gloomy rain. But that abated,  leaving the great outdoors cold wet and miserable. Perfect time to fly.  
I can report that the flight went well, no unpleasant issues so far.  I did re calibrate IMU and compass before flight.  I don't know if the range issue is solved or not. I would have to un do the mods I made to find out.  But I did fly out to over 2000 feet with a 100% signal in the green all the way, according to HealthyDrones.  So if you were waiting to find out what the firmware is like, it seems to be ok.  When the weather warms a bit I will put it to the Kneepuck Stress test.  Don't even ask what that is. Top secret.

Any idea why the announcement in the DJIGO app says "the remote controller firmware v1.5.70 has been released", but after the update, the "about" in the DJIGO app only says firmware once and it's v1.2.4 ?

The update appeared to work and said finished, just thought it was odd.

That may be for the Advanced and Pro only,  I believe. If you have a standard,  it will be different.

Sure was, announcement said 1.5.70 but it installed 1.2.4.

It worked, and amazing product, but can see how little things like that drive customers crazy.

Sorry about that .It's really strange .  Please try another APP to check this information . If that still the same , check what did the "Overall status" say .

Even though the announcement was confusing, and I thought it was an update for the RC only, the firmware of the P3S appeared to be updated, although after the update, the about only said the word firmware once and it was 1.2.40.







Is the final picture correct, is the P3S at 1.2.40 ?

The remote controller v1.5.7 is for Phantom 3 Adv/Pro ; If you are using the Phantom3 Standard , the latest firmware of both RC and aircraft is 1.4.2 .

So I went through all that crap this weekend trying to upload the latest firmware (or so I thought) to my P3S only to find out today that I still need to upgrade the GO app? I'm currently running 2.1.0  Also, this whole  mess started when the GO app barked at me telling me there was a firmware update needed...1.02..0040, now I'm finding out that it should be 1.4.2?

I'm confused...???

1.2.40 is correct for the p3s

Beware with this update, your new maximum flight level above  ground will be 360 feet. New FAA laws puts more pressure on drone makers to limit altitudes below 400 feet.  No more 500 meters. Notice the new specs below that were changed as of 11-25-15 when the new update came out. It no longer says 500 meters. The new update limits the aircraft to 120 meters of flight above take off area. That's 360 feet. When I called and asked DJI, the tech guy told me it was because new FAA laws that puts pressure on drone makers were going into effect 1-1-16. I will not be updating my firmware.

There are no new "FAA Laws". Whatever DJI are doing, they are doing proactively, like their geofencing firmware.

This information came directly from DJI tech support. He said new FAA rules concerning drone altitudes were going into effect 1-1-16. The ONLY thing this new update does it limit the drones to 360 feet or 120 meters according to the tech from DJI. I posted a picture to my original post that proves this. All the specs on the drones were changed on 11-25-15 when the update came out. Please see.

You can override the software limit.. It's worded badly on the site. You will need to acknowledge that you want to fly higher..
