You can get the basic colors at almost any hardware store. Costs about $10 total. No idea if this will last, but it seems like it will.

Interesting idea.  The finished product looks good.  I'm curious - is the Plasti Dip coating more puncture and scratch resistant than the original Styrofoam in your opinion?  I assume it's water repellent - but so was the Styrofoam.  I look forward to hearing how it holds up with use.

The plasti dip is more of a "rubbery" feel to it. I tried scratching it with my fingernail, and it didn't even leave a mark. Fingernails can easily make marks on the styrofoam. I think this is an improvement, but time will tell.

Wow, now it looks better indeed.

Did you prep the case with and cleaner or adhesive to get the Plasti Dip to adhere better?

Anyone thought about mixing up a 2 part epoxy or polyurethane and coating with that?  Those are both very tough materials.

Styrospray and other products would strengthen the case.

I did not. I just sprayed it right on there. It took perfectly. I traveled with it over the weekend and tried my best to bang it up as best I could. Help up like I would expect. Will last just fine until I get a Dronecrates case.

Yeah but why not just find a hard case that this ideal foam insert will fit. Then you have a much better case ;)

Ima make one outta stainless steel.  That way,  I know it will hold up when I climb Mt. Everest with it.  None of that cheap stuff for me.

That is a great idea. Make sure you gold plate it as well. You know, to give it that little extra wow factor.

They say weight = traction,  and I would not want to slip,  so the gold is a good idea.  Thanks.

i was thinking of doing the same thing with mine the other day but wasn't sure if it would melt it but now i know and am going to try it out:-) i may try burning a some text into the case with the laser cutter before i coat it. did you have to tape off or cut the seam or did it still open fine?

I ran a razor blade around the seam, but it didn't need it. There is enough of a gap there. Thanks for watching.

I did this mod last Saturday (day after I got my Phantom 4) and love it. I did black. Like others have mentioned it is a little sticky. I actually kind of like that, as a Pelican case is great - but it slides all over my trunk. I'll probably upgrade eventually, but first I need an ND filter, another battery, and maybe a DBS range extender.

HI, saw this on your Channel the other day after looking of ways of doing something to add some more durability to the case, thought about having it vinyl wrapped but I think this is the way to go.

how is it holding out so far?

Holding up great. I have taken 2 trips with it and I have been purposefully kinda rough on it. The rubberized coating is protecting it nicely. And like someone else said, it stays in place better in the trunk.

I did mine this weekend. Black with the gloss...It came out pretty nice. Thanks for the tip!
