I got a new Phantom 3 Standard today, straight out of the box the gimbral is making loud noises. Even when its on a flat surface not moving it sounds like it is working hard or a servo motor is on but jammed. You just move the camera with your finger and it will stop the loud buzzing noises until it settles back in its position again. Every now and then it shuts up but most of the time it is making these noises.

This is a brand new product and I wouldnt expect these issues. Should I take it back and get a refund or is there a simple fix.

Note I have checked that grub screw and it is tight.

Sounds like a problem.   I would get a different one.
Only caveat would be if you're not setting it on a LEVEL surface. It would geet "hunting" for level.

I have a very similar problem with a new Phantom 3 Standard. Noisy when the camera is level and the gimble becomes hot. I contacted DJI support 4 days ago but I have had no reply. Very disappointed with level of support from DJI.

Thanks for the video. i can see a screw in that position on the Phantom 3 Standard. It's not clear on the video what you did to resolve the problem but my problem appears a bit different. The motor nearest to the camera - which controls the up and down movement of the camera - gets hot. The noise only happens when it is holding the camera horizontal

Hello Matt, could you post a video of your issue here? Does the video above solve your problem?

Hello,

The grub screw was already tight not not my issue.

I just took a video of the sound its making (I pan away from the gimbral to get the mic closer to the noise source). This is actually a less aggressive noise than what it was making last night but in my opinion (as a mechanical engineer) this should be a lot quieter brand new.

I have the same noise (OP) on my brand new P3P as well. I thought it was normal.

Purely from an engineering point of view if I sent a product try one of my customers with a servo that sounded like that when it should really be very quiet would have it sent back very quickly!

Hello,

The grub screw was already tight not not my issue.

Do you operate the gimbal when you record the video? Because almost haft of the video doesn't show the gimbal reaction or status.

Because its the noise im worried about not the operation of the gimbral.. I was getting the microphone of the phone (which i used to make the video) closer to the noise source.

Unfortunately, the microphone also picks up the sound from the ultrasonic transducers of the VPS system.
