What does the icon in the bottom right corner of the map view do?  It looks like a padlock or fingertip tilted 45 degrees. If I tap it it turns blue and then turns white again.

If you had been flying then switching to map view you would see a trace of the flight.  Pressing the icon will erase the trace from the map.

Correct, as hummingbird posted it's an eraser and erases the green flight path.

Thanks for clearing that up. I find that there's a lot going on in the app, so I spend quite a bit of time reviewing it offline. That way I can concentrate on flying!

For me I leave it on, if you ever lose signal and instead of performing a RTH you cab just follow the green line home.

Not following what you are saying. My suggestion was to follow the green line home since you have no signal.
Either way if you follow the green line home or a RTH, both would hit an obstacle on the way home unless you have a P4.

If you've lost signal, how would you know if the aircraft is following the direct route home?

The straight line between aircraft and HP can't be removed, afaik.

If you didn't fly directly (LOS) to your target location in order to avoid obstacles, etc., then yes, it would be wise to re-trace your steps following your outbound flight route trace on the map to avoid the same obstacles on the return leg.

When you lose signal it's most likely going to be video but you still have great RC signal. The video takes so much more data and you'll lose that first (P3 Pro/Adv)

Isn't the straight line colored green and the route actually taken a shade of gray?

You're advising to fly home by retracing the route taken when outbound, right?

UPDATE: No, the straight line is orange and the actual route taken is green.

Great advice, everyone should be totally confident flying in ATTI mode. The day will come when there's a GPS signal loss fro whatever reason and you need to know how to control it by yourself.
Many crashes can be easily avoided by learning ATTI.
My suggestion is to do it in a large field with strong winds, if you can be proficient with that then you'll be just fine.

I bought myself a little Blade nano when I got my P4 so I could practice on a drone that can take some punishment. You also have to maintain altitude with a bare bones quad, and that adds a little more complexity.

Perfect start, especially flying and being confident with something harder to fly than the Phantoms is good.
BUT, the DJI aircraft so much technology built into them that you also need to know the whole manual and know all about it's features and it's limitations.

Yup, but the slightest air movement, or if the gyro is off a tiny bit it'll drift. I was flying my P4 inside a 700 seat theatre last week and the air conditioning vents were blowing it around.

Very true Ken and it is a ton of fun. I first started flying in ATTI in a 50 Acre open field. Now I do it in a small Orchard on my property. And yes, a windy day is a challenge. We take GPS and IMU for granted and it is really working overtime in a moderate wind. Pretty amazing.

Thanks for that question and answer. I have searched high and low, watched numerous tutorials about DJI GO, searched the P3S manual, searched forums, and this is the only place I've seen the answer.

I suggest that DJI include this in the next version of the manual. It tells what the other icons do, but not this one.
