It could be compass related - if so, it's perhaps a shared responsibility. The P4 has dual compasses and other redundancies for exactly that reason. Many P3s have been flown through and over bridges, buildings, cruise ships, container ports and other areas with massive amount of metal. In fact, DJI HQ and their flagship stores are in very dense (metal filled) areas.
One thing about DJI - they constantly learn and improve. If they find a shortcoming in the programming, they will make attempts to fix it in the future. After all, crashed drones are of no benefit to them...or the customers. So we both want the same things.
It would be interesting to do a bunch of tests with various magnetic influences. My thinking is that it is mostly upon calibration and startup where such compass errors occur - that is, the drone is smart enough to ignore crazy readings (and look at the GPS and IMU) during flight.
I recently took my P3 up the side of a very tall industrial chimney with large cellular reflectors on top - it didn't misbehave at all.
It would not seem that a compass would say "speed errors" because speed is mostly based on GPS and IMU (probably)....it would say "Compass Error" only. |
