Hello forum!

I've formated the included memory card to FAT32 and copied the latest firmware bin onto the card. When I am powering up the Inspire nothing happens on my remote/ipad combo (i.e no window about "Do you want to upgrade?").

In the end of the movie the beeping changes into a continuous beep. Like beeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

Any clue why I can't install the latest firmware?

The same happened to me. I copied the latest firmware into the card and placed it on gimbal. Nothing appear on the App and did not ask me for permission to install. However the gimbal started making very soft noises and I waited for 25 min. All of a sudden there were no more noises. My App then showed firmware is the latest version and have been flying ever since with no problem. Having said that I am not looking forward to the next firmware update

Didn't solve my problems. Now it has been 35 minutes with the same continuing beep

Try rebooting everything. When I did mine I put the Controller program on a thumb drive and did the Controller first. I then did the Inspire SD Card and out it in the Gimbal slot. Left the Controller on and did the Inspire. There were a series of beeps and camera movements. It took a while and it will do a couple of reboots if I remember right, I know it did at least one. It takes a while and during that time there is no activity from the Inspire or Controller, this is normal. When everything is done everything will come alive. I did not format the SD Card. I bought a fresh one 4 GB and fresh Thumb Drive. I had no issues at all and when it is finished you will get "You now have the latest version" on your Controller. I think a steady beep means that it didn't take.

Something is wrong and I can't think of what is happening. The way that I mentioned worked fine the first time. Are your Batteries fully charged? What may be happening is one of the functional alarms are kicking in. Can you get to the point where you can calibrate the compass. In other words can you get the program up at all, If you can try to get to the compass cal and do that with the Inspire.

I am having the exact same error as Peter. I have reformatted my SD card, completely powered down the Inspire, controller and removed /connected the camera. My batteries were at 58% to begin with so I am now charging the battery. I am now also going to try updating the controller first...

Try this, install the pilot app. Update the controller with a thumb drive. Put the Bin file on the SD card. Leave the tablet on and connected to the controller. Put the SD card into the camera and turn on the Inspire. There will be some camera movements and beeping. Let everything run, it takes a while and nothing will be on your screen. wait for either a time out message or 20 or more minutes. If you do not get an up to date message and the screen comes alive power down the Inspire and then the controller. Then power on the controller and then the Inspire you should get a quick message showing you a small clock with a percentage number that indicates how far the update got before it stopped. Let everything run and after a few more minutes your screen will come alive and tell you that the firmware is up to date. It may say 99% and then disappear. Do a MIU calibrate and Compass calibrate and you should be all set.

Let me know if this works for you.

UPDATE - after charging all batteries to 100% and running the update again it has succeeded. There were a few glitches with the app. When launching the app you'll see the warning about upgrading within the next 3 days, then for a moment an upgrade dialog, which disappears after dismissing the first one. Just keep trying until you are able to hit the upgrade button. After it started upgrading I had to disconnect/reconnect the app to see it finally upgraded. Good luck.

@peter.tillverka - did you by chance look at your log files to see what the problem could be? When you run the upgrade it writes log files to the microSD card here: ~/Inspire1/MISC/LOG/*.*.txt where *.* is the filename. You need to show hidden files in order to see this directory.

If you are on a Mac and wondering how to show/hide files:
Launch terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
at prompt type: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
view log file found in dir path mentioned above
to hide files type: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

Anyway - if you open that log file up it might give you an indication of where things are failing. I was having similar issues to what you are describing and when I viewed my own log files this is what I found:

The line highlighted in red is where me and my retailer agreed the problem was at. We are thinking that the firmware on the camera or gimbal is the issue (corrupt, etc.).

We ended up having to send back my machine under RMA. I bought it 3 weeks ago and have yet to fly it because it is still in DJIs warehouse somewhere in a support queue. It reminds me of the final scene in Raiders of The Lost Ark -

Let us know how you make out. It seems that at some point the update hangs up or there is another possibility that the Tablet that some use the Processor is slow.

My tablet is the latest ipad mini Should work like a charm.

Same problem here. Tried to update the fw in the aircraft first and then the link with the RC was lost. I have tried to link them as DJI manual states with no luck.
Any suggestions on how to link back the Inspire with the remote besides the "manual"?

That I might be able to help you with. It has been said that the remote control and aircraft will not communicate unless both have the same firmware installed. So if you update one and not the other they won't recognize each other. Also, you may need to re- bind the aircraft after installation. There was also mention that it is best if you turn the remote off and do the bird then turn the bird off and do the remotes. After each is done, plug the sd card back into pc and check if the update was successful, there will be a text file. If the file says cancelled you already have the required firmware, if it says failed... Well you may need to try again, and finally, if it says successful your in business. Be sure to erase the txt file after each install. Hope this helps

Update remote control with aircraft turned off wait 15 Seconds and Rc will update and will connect perfectly with aircraft.

I have upgraded the remote successfully but when I try to upgrade the bird the .txt reads " upgrade failed,  Reboot the aircraft and install the firmware again"
Does anybody knows how to reboot the aircraft?

The RC and the Aircraft are still not connecting/linking

I have the same problem, i have successfully updated the TX using a cable that come from the camera itself (dji video) but when i turn only the inspire to update it nothing happens no update is launched no nothing!!

Now the TX is successfully up to date since the txt file marked as success, but when i have formatted the sdcard and placed the bin file in the root of the sdcard and inserted it in the camera and turned on the inspire to update it too nothing happened no update no beeping...nothing!!

Now the TX is not seen by the inspire since both the tx and the inspire are not under the same firmware. (TX v1.2.0.17) (Inspire v1.2.0.16)

Can anybody help please!!!

The problem is, everytime i try to update the Aircraft nothing happens, it's like the inspire is turned on without any memory card in the camera, by the way when i turn it off and look inside the memory card i find a new folder called DCIM and a hidden folder called MISC and inside that folder (MISC) there is three folders LOG, THM, and TXT if im not wrong and all of them are empty !!!!!

And im no longer able to link the TX with (Method from th manual) the Aircraft because both of them are under different Firmwares now !!

Things getting more than complicated, first time was just the camera locked and no recording, no pictures, memory card format failed, cant change camera settings, no video feed... now it's more than the first Sh*t !!!

Always looking for help !!!

Just turn it off and wait a few seconds then back on. That will reboot the Inspire.

Now i cant even go to travel mode, since the TX is no lonager recognized by the Aircraft (did linking it didnt work since both AC & TX arn't under the same Firmware)

My Inspire doesnt want to Upgrade it's not kinda detecting the update file in the memory card !!!!
I have turned it on with the memory card and update file for 40min and more and nothing happened what the hell is going on with these machines !!! and when i've turned it off i checked the memory card to see that there is no TXT at all the Aircraft is not detecting the bin file

Why would doing the controller first matter? As I've read from Dundees post that the aircraft should be turned off when doing the controller and vice versa.

My solution:

It was the gimbal!  I had to return the whole copter to the dealer. They exchanged the gimbal and the update ended successfully!

Try the same, if  you can get another gimbal.

Same problem here,   I called dji and they said it would have to be sent in, they did send me a call pickup tag and are paying the freight, they said there was a lot of inspires doing the same thing, 4 to 6 weeks to repair.

Welcome to the club! Im having all kinds of trouble updating the firmware. If DJI wants to sell these rather expensive birds they might want it to actually Work!!!!

Ok so I came back to admit that I was a bit hasty.  I am up and running and everything is working perfectly.  Sorry DJI for the tantrum and nasty remarks. Frankly I didn't have the problems that some are having. I simple didn't do a good job of connecting the camera to the bird.
This is a very impressive unit! and Im glad that i chose it.  If i had a complaint at this point it would be that while updating the firm ware there was absolutely nothing to tell me that it was happening and nothing to tell me that it was done. no beeps no waiting nothing
