I just received my Mavic Air.  Woohoo.  Before it was delivered I cruised around this forum.  I saw all sorts of threads talking about problems with DJI's latest firmware:  .0400.  My current aircraft firmware version is 00.20.0036 which seems ridiculously old compared to 1.00.0400.  So here is my dilemma:  Should I fly with the current firmware or upgrade to .0400?  Is it even possible to upgrade to .0300, which most people seemed to be happy with.  Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated.

Since I've been flying DJI drones,  I've always updated to the latest FW. Standard practice for me and never an issue but only once with my P4P which I then decided to downgrade just once. Once DJI produced a fix in the next FW, I updated and issue was gone. My advice, update to latest FW.

I recived my MA 6/23/18 it’s cool but I’ve flown 500 to 700 class DLC Heli’s for years. I get 460m to 900m on some occasions. My drone shows symptoms referred to on the boards. MA is advertised with a distance of 10 km. ???

Does 00.20.0036 fw even exist ? Isn't that controller's or battery firmware ?

My MA shipped with 0.300 fw and I haven't updated it yet, even though it shows "inconsistent firmware versions" when I change batteries, but so far had no issues with it.

I would highly suggest keeping your Drone and the DJI Go 4 application to be updated to avoid some issue or glitch when using your DJI Mavic Air for you to maximize the usage of your Drone. I strongly recommend contacting DJI Support in any case you'll encounter any issue with your aircraft using the latest DJI Assistant 2 firmware. Thank you.

I'd say go with the flight SW FW updates, I've noticed more alerts on the motors, but no flight problems ~12 battery flights in 4 days (except for the above), but this I 'think' was DJI GO4, so I'd limit the phone app to v.4.2.16 at most or earlier (I'm on Android no IOS)

I decided to take an incremental approach with FW upgrades.   Everything worked fine under the the shipped firmware (00.20.0036).  Today I upgraded to .0300 using DJI Assistant 2.  All aircraft inputs worked as normal, and the Mavic Air was as stable as under the original firmware.  Under the new firmware I noticed substantially better quality video recordings.   Still shots in JPG looked slightly better as well.  Now I just have too work up the courage to update to .0400.
