I was looking forward to this easy application and bought the pro bundle

but what a disappointment

been trying to get it to work all day yesterday

my equip etc:
- Sony A7 IV
- RS2
- Android 10 (Fairphone 3)

steps:
- connected the raveneye HDMI with the camera
- connected the com-port on the other side to the gimbal (bottom slot)
- connected the gimbal (top slot) to the Sony-Multi (also tried the usb-c to usb-c)
- updated firmware of the Gimbal to 1.05
- updated App to 1.4.10

additional steps i made on the camera:
- HDMI info OFF, to have preview on the camera screen too
- HDMI output from AUTO to 1080p (just to make sure)

- i can connect the gimbal to the app, everything works fine
- then i connect the raveneye through wifi with my phone, lights on raveneye green
- BUT then it says:
- 'gimbal not connected'
- and there's no preview or any camera info in the preview-screen of the app
- no Fimrware info or Deviices in the apps settings
- so no possibility to update Raveneye Firmware either
- (startup sequence, RS2 > Camera > Raveneye)

what's wrong with this product?
apparently i'm not the only one with problems..

thanks in advance if anybody has any tips
regards
thomas

Hi Thomas, thank you for reaching out, when using the Sony Multi cable for connection, RavenEye is supported. Could you please provide a video of your setup of the camera and gimbal for better assistance? Look forward to hearing back from you. 1.png

I have the A7R4 and it works.  I don't remember the camera settings exactly.  Don't try to figure out how to get Aperture, Shutter, and ISO to show on the Raveneye.  I've tried everything and nothing works.  Others have too.

You need to connect the HDMI connections.  Use the Sony cable to USB-C on the RS2.  Connect the USB-C from the raveneye (other side like on the video I've made) to USB-C on the RS2.  Then it should work.  You can connect the USB-C from the Sony to the USB-C to the RS2 which is for the follow focus motor but instead would use to recharge the camera (not on video).

Also, if you've never had the update raveneye firmware update pop-up you need to do this.  Post #22

Disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the camera to the RS2 fixes problems.  It's like this on the Ronin-S too when I can't get the record button to work.

Hi Susan,

thanks for the reply!

first - regarding your picture - as mentioned in my post, i startup the setup as follows: Ronin > Camera > Raveneye
that's correct - right?

second: you asked for a Video - you get ... photos

the setup:

then i start up everything and the RS2 connects with the APP

and it tells me connecting the raveneye will disconnect the gimbal

i do that and connect the wifi from APP and raveneye

(to be continued)

after connecting the WIFI it looks ok

but the preview monitor doesn'T come uzp automatically and when i click it it looks like this:

it shows the gimbal as disconnected

no firmware Info or anything

zero devices

when i disconnect the wifi again i can again reconnect the gimbal
and it tells me RS2 is connected to the raveneye - and i should connect through raveneye

i click ok and the gimbal is again connected but ofc without the raveneye

i hope this helps and maybe i'm missing something completely obvious

regards
thomas

but that sounds exactly like i described what i do
all cables connected (except the usb-c for charging as you mentioned)

i have just posted a summary with pictures - maybe you see some error

i was pretty sure the A7-IV isn't the problem - but good to know

Connect RS2 to app > Connect to raveneye at the bottom middle of the app > Log in w/ the Wifi code stickered onto the Raveneye then it should work.

Did you turn the Raveneye on and log into it?

as can be seen on the photos above, the raveneye is on and light is green

i'm also logged in with the APP

not sure what you mean with login into Raveneye?

Did you remove the lens cover from the lens?  You need to check your settings in camera then maybe.  Did you upgrade the Raveneye firmware at least?

Also, did you ensure you are using the Sony cable?  Just because it fits in the port doesn't mean it's the Sony cable.  I think there are 2 different cables that have the same port.  The Sony one is a bit longer at the camera side.

hehe - i appreciate your help but you are joking right?

(as can be seen on the pictures above, the screen is black because it's not connected properly)

and i just realized a totally different thing regarding the forums
i can only see parts of your posts in the thread - and when i click reply it shows me your full post in preview

ok, now that i replied i can also see your last question about the Firmware update

i already answered this in my initial post - as the raveneye is not connected there is no possibility ti update the firmware

and it doesn't look like you can update raveneye firmware without a connection through RS2

and now your post is longer than before - did you edit it?

and yes, the cable is labelled "USB-C to Sony Multi"

I have the RS3 Ronin with the Raven Eye with the Sony a7siii camera and everything works perfectly including the aperture, shutter & ISO which I can control via my phones screen, you need to have Bluetooth on your RS3 and on your phone turned off. Make sure you go to the Ronin apps settings in your phone (iPhone) menu and turn off Bluetooth just for the Ronin app.
