My firmware update failed three times. The app is saying gimbal disconected and needs to update. Does anyone have any tips?

Check the wire harness, be sure it is indeed firmly connected at both ends.

Standard is upgraded through the app directly.

And since no firmware downloads does not appear on download list on standard it seems right!

So this means I can put the firmware for the Phantom 3 professional on my phantom 3 standard and it will be fine?

NO it does NOT mean that!.

I am unsure how you are reading that but do not do it.

As volfi said the standard is updated through the APP DIRECTLY.

no download file under the standard section at dji support means there is NOT one to use.

Is there a specific reason you decided to update?

yeah...that's the thing.   Everyone's app says that but unfortunately, noone tells the buyer that the updates are optional.  Sometimes they add new features or fix bugs....sometimes they introduce restrictions.

Your Phantom should arrive with a known good set of firmware and operate fine right oput of the box.

Unfortunately, DJI makes it appear that the updates are urgent the way they appear to the consumer.

By the time the vast majority of people learn that they didn't necessarily have to update, they already have.   For many people however, updating is desireable and they update at every chance.    Different strokes for differnt folks.    Personally, I'm on the original FW that came with my Phantom and have had zero issues, I have zero restrictions on my Phantom and it flies exactly as I want it to.  I passed on some of the updates that brought some pretty cool new features because thoe updates also introduced restrictions.    It's all a personal; choice.
